Can you manage or do you need to quit

Trying to manage my alcohol intake. During lockdown I have developed really bad drinking habits …. To be honest I probably had them before lockdown! Do I need to say goodbye forever or can I learn to control my drinking?

🤔🤔

Welcome!

I, personally, cannot encourage a person to continue to drink if alcohol has become a problem in a person’s life. Especially, if they have tried to manage their drinking and find they can’t, yet continue to search for ways to keep drinking. Alcohol is an addictive drug, yet all drinkers don’t become addicted. It’s up to you to determine if you need to stop or want to continue drinking.

For me, one drink was too many and 100 wasn’t enough. I tried for decades to control my drinking and tried everything known to man and may have invented a few. Nothing worked, my drinking escalated and I had to stop. I was 53 when I stopped. Whatever path you choose, I wish you well. 🍀

Which do you want to do?

Hi LeeRocker for me it’s ultimately to be able to reduce and have a more moderate approach to drinking. I know some people think this is not possible but I enjoy a drink and it just would be nice to be able to be more conscious about the amount in the moment. That probably doesn’t make any sense at all🤦🏼‍♀️ Hopefully you get it! Often I feel that people are judging me, for me I think trying to be totally alcohol free isn’t something I really want.

Thanks for reaching out ❤️

Are you really saying “I want to be only a little bit addicted “?

Very difficult.

I understand what you are saying. And I feel that’s possibly a way to start. Such as cut so many days out for not drinking Alcohol. Start with 2 or 3 days a week without Alcohol and increase to 5 days a week without Alcohol. Hopefully & gradually by then your tolerance for Alcohol will have lowered. And you may find a glass of wine or 2 on your weekend days is plenty. Educate your Brain as you go along. It needs to know your plan ! So you both work to get to your goals.

OK so track what you do drink, set limits. Work out where you can go on holiday with the cash you save by not buying so much booze! You can do it.
