Morning,

Well done getting this far in recovery. Mine was in late 2014 and it took well over a year to discover more pleasant emotions. And they still don't "visit" often. But I know they are lurking there somewhere too.

For me....might not work for you...I tried/try to put myself in situations that may /"should" make me smile /possibly be happy. Eg good comedy, time with friends, joining a choir, going to headway meetings, yoga, swimmingwatching cute animal you tube clips even .

The first time I felt "happy" was about 18 months after my stroke....when I had already travelled on a major holiday..and met with a meet up group to talk about travel. Was driving home and wondered what I was feeling....happy !!..''for all of ten minutes.....but I knew it was there and possible .

So, my tip would be to try to put yourself in lots of different situations where it might be found...or it may find you.

Good luck !! ☺

Hi Maylin, I had my stroke about 14 months ago, before the stroke I was a typical 50 year old man

I prided myself that I hadn't cried for 30 years. After the stroke I cried at the drop of a hat, at everything, tv programs, songs, etc. and most of the things weren't even that sad.

I loved watching Football but could find no enjoyment in it anymore, I just didn't care.

2 months my wife made me go back to my GP and he put me onto anti depressants the difference it made was amazing, I now care about things again and I am now actually happy.

If you haven't considered this it might be an idea to talk to your GP.

Hope this helps

Totally agree, that is exactly how my husband was and the difference with antidepressants was amazing.

A lot of stroke patients suffer with their emotions, it is not uncommon to need antidepressants, if this continues speak with your doctor who will be very understanding as this is a common side effect.
