Why insurance companies do not insure the life of a diabetic person taking insulin?

With most medical insurance companies, they feel that if a person needs a type of insulin, then they will either not cover it on their plan, or the patient can ask their doctor for a prescription for a different insulin so they don't have to pay too much for it. I had to switch both of my insulins because the insurance company I have stopped covering for the others that I had been using almost a year ago.
