Very good question. I take a number of drinks and enjoy them. Malt whisky, double shot, no mix or ice, gin and tonic and tiger larger. I rather drink normal beer than no sugar one, this is because there is hidden sugar. I try to balance my beer drinking by cutting out some food. Whisky there is no sugar. Gin and tonic the is sugar in tonic.

Remember it is a balancing act. My way of dealing with high HbA1c is very different therefore take care on the quantity, enjoy a small quantity rather than a few more!!!

Enjoy one life.

you are overlooking the fact that it is the liver which has to handle the alcohol in the beer.A diabetic already has impaired lipid tolerance and alcohol dampens the entire metabolic function in the liver. it lays the foundation for alcoholic fatty change which in due course left unchecked to alcoholic hepatitis.

Hi kapilbho ,

Have you talked to your doctor about drinking beer or anything with alcohol in it? Some medications can be very dangerous if mixed with alcoholic drinks (even light drinks). Please consult your doctor (if not already) and please let us know what they say. We don't want anyone getting sick or worse. :-)

You’re welcome!πŸ˜€πŸ‘ 155 mg/dl is good.πŸ˜€πŸ‘ Some people run higher after meals. Do you have insulin or do you take other medications for blood sugar control?

Here are some other ways that alcohol can affect diabetes:--

* While moderate amounts of alcohol can cause blood sugar to rise, excess alcohol can actually decrease your blood sugar level -- sometimes causing it to drop into

dangerous levels.

* Beer and sweet wine contain carbohydrates and may raise blood sugar.

* Alcohol stimulates your appetite, which can cause you to overeat and may affect your blood sugar control.

* Alcohol can interfere with the positive effects of oral diabetes medicines or insulin.

* Alcohol may increase triglyceride levels.

* Alcohol may increase blood pressure.

* Alcohol can cause flushing, nausea, increased heart rate, and slurred speech.

Drinking alcohol increases the risk of mouth cancer, pharyngeal (upper throat) cancer, oesophageal (food pipe) cancer, laryngeal (voice box) cancer, breast cancer, bowel cancer and liver cancer. Some of these might be quite surprising but alcohol gets in to our blood stream and can cause damage all around the body.

No beer. Any alcoholic drink diluted with enough water can be taken. Avoid all drinks where on the label it is stated xxxxxx like flavor added. these do not contain the actual drink. it is like your fanta orange which does not contain any orange. Avoid drinks with carbs including the juices you are taking.

One can of beer contains about 13 gr.of carbohydrates.what you are practicing seems OK. But ,generally speaking alcohol and D do not go together.

Carb on one cup of rice? carb on one can of beer?

What is the difference?

Do both react the same way in human body?

Carb and the sugar!!

We need to do our compassion very carefully!

I do not consume alcohol, so I am not speaking out of personal experience. But,what I read from authentic sources is that alcohol spikes blood sugar very fast followed by steep drop and dehydration.Binge drinking without re hydration and food intake may lead to severe problems.I have seen such cases where the doctors put them on saline drip immediately. There should be no problem if you go easy and intelligently with the tipple, like you seem to be doing.

Please read this important information:

A LIVER DISEASE NOT LINKED TO BOOZE

Which of these two can cause chronic liver disease? Astonishingly, they BOTH could β€” and 13 million Britons have the non-alcoholic type

Growing numbers are diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)

20 per cent of UK population has this condition β€” up from 15 per cent in 2005

Potentially, this can progress to liver failure and raises the risk of liver cancer

Yes,there is what is called NAFLD-non alcoholic fatty liver disease.Causes and treatment are entirely different and very difficult to diagnose. But, what alcohol does is cirrhosis of the liver. The liver gets hardened and it's functionality diminishes. It is a serious condition and as far as I know, very difficult to treat.I am not familiar with this problem.but the link below explains it all.

I am a teetotaller. But what I have read from several published literature is that alchohol increase suger first and decrease later. As suger metabolism is done by liver then why to infect it by taking alchohol.I have many friends who are alcoholic and suffer acute uncontrolled suger.some are on sitagliptin, vildagliptin or tenegliptin. So avoid alchohol please.
