Did any diabetic noticed reduced smelling power ?

Is it common to have reduced power of smell in long standing diabetes ? Please share your experience if any.

I believe that since I've been diagnosed with diabetes in 1980, I have lost my sense of smell over time, so that now, I can only smell certain things, like fresh linen, basic spices like garlic and onions.
