Actually, diabetes is not an impediment for long life. For one thing,if one goes for regular medical check up,there is every chance that other functions like liver, kidney etc will be taken care of early enough. You need to lead very disciplined and orderly life to avoid diabetic complications. Then only it is worth while to live longer. Also,we should remember that as one grows older,it becomes more and more difficult to manage diabetes.

you can live more than 50 years. diabetic is not a disease. It's a warning. A chance to be systematic.but reduce it first from medicines and when it comes to controlling stop those medicines and be selective in food, regular in walk or exercise regularly.even a normal person without diabetes is being regular in exercise and in food why don't we? let's start a new life take care..there is a solution for everything in the world.not only here. also for the galaxy

* The risk for stroke is 2 to 4 times higher among people with diabetes.

Even if the sugar level is controlled, the diabetic patient should undergo various tests at specific intervals.

A: HbA1c. HbA1c is a lab test that shows the average level of blood sugar (glucose) over the previous 3 months. It shows how well you are controlling your diabetes.

B: Control your high Blood pressure, if any. Normal blood pressure- <120/80 mmHg.

C: Control your blood Cholesterol: Normal cholesterol < 200 mg/dL. LDL <100 mg/dL HDL > 40 mg/dL Triglyceride < 150 mg/dL.

D: Diabetic education. Dental check-up should be done in every 6 months.

E: Eye examination for glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and cataract.

F: Foot examination

G: Glucose monitoring. Fasting or postprandial blood sugar may be checked daily and avoid foods that elevates blood sugar.

H: Health maintenance immunization against influenza and pneumococcal pneumonia.

I: Indications for specialty care. Heart, kidney, eye should be checked periodically by concerned specialists.

Immunity refers to the body's ability to keep illness away. If you have a strong immune system, then your body is able to keep itself healthy by fighting illness. Therefore, a compromised immune system means a body that does not have good immunity. (For example: a diabetic patient.) He will become sick and die due to severe complications when an endemic disease is spread.

10 miles per day means 16.60 kilometers per day walking, not sure how you will achieve this target? If you traverse 4 kms/hour, it will take more than four hours for this. Occasionally it is very much possible to walk 10 miles/day,and not possible for 7x7 days of week .

Even a healthy non diabetic person is,unable to achieve this unnecessary goal post for most of the days, even if he has no another commitments for the society.

It is not important how long one lives it is how well one lives, just have BS under control and enjoy every moment in life. I am 65 and I know people of 85 and above still living healthy, never worry of the disease have a great day.

the question is not how many years you live(Quantity) but the quality of life.

living with the physical body after 60 is not wihout pain, and after 70 is with variable degree of pain.

learn to live a meaningful independent life here now without meaningless longing s and be grateful to god for being alive today

You cannot keep momentum by walking 4 miles (6.40 kms) /hours for three or so for 7x7 days of week for 365 days of year,on the inclined hill tracts, forget on treadmill which is fictions.

As you have admitted you lost your momentum then by walking 4-5 miles means 7-8 hours per hour after some time. One can be fatigued as such, and what is the end result of this evaluate your self dear, then comments.
