I know you will always attack on same....but have you ever tested any of those???

Why would I?

Let's say I had a malady that could be cured by homeopathy and I believed it. You take the dose and feel better. There's a clue here 'feel better'. Cool - you are cured, right? Good luck!

Then lets take the type 1 diabetic - see where I am going here? What about a type 1 diabetic cured by homeopathy and seeking homeopathic fertility treatment?

Claro?

Hi Cure,

If you see the composition of madhunashini vati , it is made up of all herbs which are useful for diabetes and its quite handy too ...no need to collect different powders....

You can find the composition in following link :

myyog.com/products/details/...

I hope people will not take it as endorsement for ayurvedic medicines :)

jingale profile image
jingale in reply tokarch

What is wrong in endorsing something if it is effective?

Ashka9 profile image
Ashka9 in reply tokarch

I am not sure but I took madhunashini vati of Patanjali for about more than 6 months but did not find much benefit...may be there but I was not monitoring PPBS regularly like now I have started.

Somehow, I was taking Diabecon DS tablet containing Gymnema (meshashringi), Pitasara and Shilajeet..as it's main constituents and I had more trust in Himalaya Herbals brand and was taking it since one and a half year. Only 1 tab in morning. I really believed that was helping control by BS levels. Now, for experimenting, I stopped Diabecon DS tablet since 10 days or so..and my FBS and PPBS levels both shooted up like anything...

The link cure posted here clearly mentions that Gymnema is the most effective treatment in diabetes. I have to believe that with no doubts whatsoever after above experimentation of stopping the drug and measuring BS levels regularly. Once can go the above link and find how Gymnema works.

I have to restart Diabecon DS from tomorrow again!:-)

All the allopathic medicines have actions like these herbs

These are the source of inspiration for all mode of action of all allopathic medicines available or under research

One of these days I will compile all the present here

But of course I am firm on the diet I follow and these are supportive

I take some of these regularly to improve insulin sensitivity which I have personally Experimented..

Shashi...

You are right. I often tell my my friends and patients that ayurveda is a crude medicine whereas allopathy is a purified extract.

For example : serpgandha and reserpine

Cinchona barks and quinine

There are many examples.

Ayurveda uses milk, ghee, honey etc as vehicles for drug delivery wheres allopathy uses tabs, capsules, syp etc

and by the way accept or not our life style is based entirely on ayu principles. Take any indian diet and you will find ayu in it. " our diet is our medicine ".

The negative aspect of ayu is the crude preparations. Concotions are bitter. Also many products not easy to prepare. And last but not the least the ingredients used to prepare ayu medicines are not easily available, not in pure form, very few go to search right plants and many meds need mercury gold or silver. These all issues make ayu drugs unpalatable and unacceptable to the general people.

in reply tosuramo

Yes

Sometime back I was about to join a company which has some research anti diabetics

So I scanned the net a lot for all future anti diabetics.

With the current ones and the future new mode of actions on the anvil.

Now when I am struck with diabetes and keep reading a lot on herbs I find a striking resemblance to the mode of actions

So these researchers just study the plant actions and prepare the purified versions

Eg Statin originated from Red Yeast Rice which is a traditional Chinese medicine for health

Lovastatin was dervied from this. Subsequent ones are synthetic with some changes in the molecular structure

suramo profile image
suramoStar in reply to

Shashi...

Yes. That's why these western people are after patenting our herbs and condiments. They see a great earning potential in turmeric, neem etc

cure profile image
cureAdministrator in reply tosuramo

suramo same thing is with metformin ...although now it is synthetic...but origin of metformin is goats rue...a herb.

Ayurveda got many herbs ...however problem is standardization...as alkaloid/chemical contents change as per the location and season.

Therefore to get standardize results those needs to be in form of derived standard alkaloid form.

It needs lots of money.

Since these herbs can not be patented....no one is investing.

suramo profile image
suramoStar in reply tocure

Cure

there are many but i always doubt ayu prepared formulas like tablets capsules etc because i don't think these preparations can deliver the required dosages. I myself use many ayurvedic products like ashwagandha satavari and many more for my personal use but take them as raw products. Never in tab or cap form.

in reply tosuramo

Even I use the herbs prepared in homeopathic pharmacies , that also reputed ones. We get almost all in homeopathy as mother tinctutres .

cure profile image
cureAdministrator in reply tosuramo

suramo yes you are right in doing things....

But just for example....ashwagandha...(withania somnifera) the one which we get in ayurvedic shops and the one grows in wild..is same...

But what we get in shop is just one diffrent variety...which is called withania somnifera nagori...

As you must be knowing Nagor is place in Madhya Pradesh. This ashwagandha is cultivated there and a domestic variety of withania somnifera.

The difference between both is content of alkaloids .....the wild variety is bit poisonous if taken excess.

As place changes...and season changes...the content also change....

Therefore Ayurveda suggest herbs to be collected after Diwali festival.

And herb should be used within one year.

suramo profile image
suramoStar in reply tocure

Cure

yes. Credibility of ayu products is always doubtful to me. For example shilajit. I'm never convinced that so much of it can be available.

Honey in its purest form and without pesticides or antibiotics.

Take this madhunashinivati. One tab and so many ingredients ! I wonder someone should sum up all the content weight and weigh the tab. Should be equal. When i ask direct questions to ayu pharma people none can give me an assuring answer. They just fumble. These people have spoiled the image of ayu just to make the products comfortable to take.

cure profile image
cureAdministrator in reply tosuramo

you are right suramo hmmm shilajeet....I really don't know what it is.....when I use to go to school....many road said Vidyas use to shout...."babujee ye hai sheelajeet...patthar ka paseena...." lol...

There is no scientific research on what it is really.....some says its organic....some says otherwise...

I tried in my way to find out what it is...still not sure what it is.....and how it is procured. LOL

cure profile image

No pharma company wants us to get cured...

And I strongly feel they plant some moles...who will always strongly oppose..for ppl going and opting for alternate therapy.

in reply tocure

This may not b the reason

Only issue is patentable or not

Because it costs millions and billions of dollars for trials

These needs to be recovered and also to earn

So we may have to go by what info is available and try it

Issue is we may not know the harmful effects some of these herbs may have in long term

But yes. Many of them are our food and we can have them every day.

At least in my care in find bitter melon + indian goosberry juice working nicely

I just started using the vijaysar tumbler I had with me.

Kept water in it overnight and had after 7 hrs

COQ10 itself is a brand name here with Universal generics now under Sanofi

Would not suggest any other brand

This may cost a bit but better to take a good brand

in reply to

I was told that VIjayasar tumbler can be used only for 45 days and then the utility gets reduced . Is it so ? How about taking the bark on powder form or soaking a piece of bark in water overnight and drink it in the morning .I don't personally go for any herbal intake , whatever may be the ailment . I take only homeopathic medicines .But we can gather information from various sources ,especially when it is experimented rather experienced .

i have an impression that while you take homeo meds there are strict dietary restrictions esp ginger and garlic. Is it true?

in reply tosuramo

TO A CERTAIN EXTENT GARLIC is prohibited ,not ginger . But too much is not good . What we use in cooking to give the tangy and spicy flavour and taste in small quantities is ok. Surprisingly all these things like ginger , garlic , onion , dalchini are not allowed in spiritual sadhana also.

suramo profile image

Well i think one should eat garlic in liberal quantity to counter ill effects of D. I rely too much on garlic. More than even D meds.

infact it is said homeopathy medicines to be taken with clean tongue..

It implies that one should not eat or drink anything before and after taking medicines.

shrisamarth profile image

The medicines are more effective if strict restrictions are followed.

in reply toshrisamarth

There are certain restrictions like coffee should not be taken when Porinum is given, onions with thuja like

in reply to

Sorry typing mistake . It is 'Psorinum''

in reply tocure

The minute the medicine touches the tongue it starts acting since it gets dissolved. So after taking the medicine one can take anything after 5 minutes .

in reply toshrisamarth

I don't go by that theory .

cure profile image
cureAdministrator in reply to

Hmmm..it is said that while using homeopathy anything which is with strong smell is prohibited..

including coffee.... tobacco..garlic...onion.

Many religions forbids use of garlic and onion.

For jains it is not allowed.

Prophet Mohammad never liked garlic smell......there are many hadiths mentioning this in Islamic scriptures...

Basically it is said garlic and onions increases sexual desire. which is hindrance to spiritual development. So for spiritual development garlic and onion is prohibited .

LOL...but look at Hindu spirituality.....there are many apsaras and kinnars depicted on our temple walls....Let it be khajuraho..konark..or for that matter Tiruapti Balijee. We never thought carnal desire is hindrance for spiritual growth.

Further one very funny information..... As per the European myth....Dracula is very scared of garlic.....if u put garlic at entrance of door....Dracula can not enter in house...

here is info about vampire and garlic...

Guess all spices are forbidden for spiritual growth....

As spices are considered 'Tamasic Guna'.

However...There are useful spices...and one must consume them to guard and make health stronger.

Without strong health spiritual development is impossible.

Therefore our scriptures says....

शरीरमाद्यं खलु धर्मसाधनम्

Means body is really medium for spiritual growth.

Kathopnishad says.....

नायमात्मा बलहीनेन लभ्य:

Realization of Bramhan...is not possible with weak body.

@cure...And one of these herbs is Amla ...you will be surprised to know the benefits of amla , it contains very powerful antioxidants . Now a days it is said to be a wonder berry...do you remember I told you about "Amla kalp" mentioned in our ayurveda for long life?

nutritionfacts.org/2012/01/...

Article says "Leading the pack by a whopping margin (200 times the antioxidant content of blueberries!) were Indian gooseberries, also known as amla or amalika."

And we are so stupid that leaving this wonderful berry we are after blueberries and goziberries and buying blueberries, cranberries and other berries in $$s.

cure profile image
cureAdministrator in reply tokarch

@karch...Yes you are right...amala is base for famous ayurvedic preparation Chyavanprash.

Amala is also one of the ingredient in Triphala churna.

One more thing...amla is rich with vitamin C.....and best part is even if you dry or cook or do anything said vitamin c remains intact.

I don't know if a diabetic can use Chyvanparash.....Scientifically papered chyavan prash is very rich with antioxidant... but it is with honey.... :(

karch profile image
karch in reply tocure

In Chyvanprash amla is present more than 90%...Fresh amla is available easily...steam it 10 min ...till it gets a little tender, so that it will taste less bitter and make chutany with tomato and garlic , chilli, jeera and just to reduce further bitterness you can add lemon juice...its yummy with any meal ...else dry amla powder is avilable easily...you dont need to take chyvanprash for getting amla in diet

Else you can make your own Chyvanprash as DYI project :) :

nishamadhulika.com/en/475-h...

My father used to make chyvanprash by himself for family

cure profile image

@karach

Thank you very much.... I will try this chyvanprash.

in market we get two types of amala.

one is banarasi....which is bigger in size...and looks very attractive.Other one is called desi or dongari amala.

It is said desi or dongri amala is more medicinal.

karch profile image
karch in reply tocure

:)...general rule is.. whatever looks flashy and fuller contains less nutrition and desi version of same is better nutrition wise ...I used desi amla since childhood ...never knew that some other version of amla also exists :) ..good to know this

..In UP ...there is a place called praptgarh...people are having lots of amla farms there ....if you go by road ...in pratapgrah...you will see amla farms eveywhere...by the side of road there are stalls of different types of amla products everywhere...everywhere you amla and just amla :) :) ...looks like amla tree is easy to grow and maintain

..and with lots of sugar too. Real chyavanprash contains many useful ingredients but now a days i don't think anybody is making chyavanprash as prescribed by chyavan rishi.

Cure tell me if gooseberry juice can be prepared at home, kept in a bottel in a freez for daily use? Obviously daily fresh is good but is another option good?

cure profile image
cureAdministrator in reply tosuramo

suramo

I guess yes...But u need to add some preservative..

There are few available in market.Don't know what they use..

But most interesting part about amala is...even if you sun dry it..it will retain all beneficial properties.

So best way is to make something like 'Mamajee Ka Pachak Awala'

Have you seen that product at many pan shops?

Other option is make what we call is 'Morawala'

Its something like making candy out of amala.

But morawala is with sugar.so forbidden.

About Chyavan prash'......there are few who make chyvanprash as per recipe given in scriptures...

But one more problem....that few herbs required are no more available...guess got extincted long ago.further to make water more muddy....as in olden time there was no proper identification..therefore confusion in identifying herb.

Just to give you example...Vanshlochan....which means sort of gum secreted by bamboo.Said thing is not available now days.

Brihaspati, the founder of materialistic (hedonistic?) Charvaka school, while taking a dig at animal sacrifices in yajnas quipped that if the sacrificed animals go the heaven, then the yajamana(performer of the yajna) should sacrifice his parents and relatives also, so that they too attain heaven. :D

BTW, the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad begins with an esoteric interpretation of Ashwamedha, where the sacrificial horse is identified with the cosmic Purusha. Sun is the eye, dawn(usha) its head, fire(agni) its mouth, earth(prithvi) its hoofs etc.

Our philosophical literature is replete with this theme of identification of the presiding diety of yajna with the sacrifice, subject with the object, macrocosm with microcosm etc.

Sorry for digression. :)

Aurangzeb demolished the Kashi Vishwanath temple and erected the Gyanvapi mosque at the same place.

Maratha noble Malhar Rao Holkar wanted to avenge this by re-building the Vishwanath temple after demolishing the mosque, but the locals pleaded to him to do this only after consolidating the Maratha power in the region.

The present structure adjacent to the Gyanvapi mosque was commissioned by his successor and daughter in law Ahilya Bai Holkar.

cure has a lot of information on this.

Gyanvapi..Gyan=knowledge and vapi= well

present day Gyanvapi well is situated between Mosque built by Aurangzeb and temple built by Rani Ahilyabai....

It is said during demolition the chief priest of temple( who was grand father of GAGA BHATTA- who held coronation of chatrapati Shivajee) Jumped in the well with original shiv lingam.

If you visit the back side of mosque still you will see the remains of old temple.

Further there is one temple called Shringar Gauri...which is still there in premises of Mosque...and darshan is permitted once in year in that temple.
