I normally won't bother with stuff like this, but as a bit of mischief and rebuttal aimed at the usual suspects here it is:

After 6 months they give a new finding exactly opposite to this . It is not vegetarian food which gives cancers , but it is pollution in everything.

meat eaters have double the risk of cancer , one from the chemical and pesticide laced vegetables , the other caused by the meat of animals which were fed by the chemically laced fodder and leftover vegetables , chicken pieces , dangerous hormonal injections , apart from their adrenaline secretions.

I know you are posting a study you found interesting. and I suppose, want some opinion.

USA is trying to turn people away from vegetarianism and veganism which is fast growing. Most veg and fruits, except for some, are produced elsewhere and imported, which is not favorable for their economy.

They are trying to push the market for meat, which now slowly but steadily declining, maybe by a very, very small percentage, every year.

Due to cold weather in the North, livestock is a major industry in the US, and rest of the country, produces potatoes, corn and oranges, and some small farming, but does not favour essential veg/fruit farming.

India is pre-dominently a vegetarian country. Google the rate of cancer in the world. You will find india is nowhere within it's 50 number. All the first 50 are mostly meat consuming countries. If the Long term vegetarian diet changes human DNA raising risk of cancer and heart disease, then, india being an ancient civilization, when compared to other countries, which are already in the top tier in the rate of cancer, then India should have already acquired a spot in that list.

This study, in my opinion, is basically aimed at the US community to veer them away from the vegetarian diet.

Yes, 80% CVD cases comes from developing countries. But read through the rest of the post. India is nowhere in that list. Still the countries, I had mentioned earlier are in the top tier in CVD cases too.

A decade back, India was not so health conscious, so basically, only very, very few people were exercising and doing yoga. But, our daily labour, be it a farmer, a housewife, an ordinary person, did some sort of physical activity or walking, as part of their job, which was all the exercise they got, and food habits( mostly veg) kept them healthy.

But, these western countries, were already exercising and still they were more prone to CVD and cancer due to their diet habits. Now slowly they are turning to veg/vegan, knowing its benefits and have started changing their diet, towards better health.

Now, Indian are more conscious about health due to awareness, and of course, change in lifestyle, (meaning more time for all these activities, due to better living conditions), so certainly, india will only fare better by 2020 in these rates, than fall back.

So the root cause of many cancers are the use of chemicals

Cannot be really tied to veg or non veg in recent times

But while i am a Vegetarian i agree that our ancestors were omnivorous.

I do agree with you about the food we eat,(high pesticide) and also about cattle being fed with these chemical fed grass and injected with hormones for various reason. I never had time to touch those topics.

But my post was related to the original post about cancer and CVD, when compared to Indian vegetarian diet and meat-eating USA,.

I have given facts, that is to prove who is more prone to these, where, even they too use chemical pesticides for farming and cattle, as India does. So every one is even, but, in the rate, we are way down, and will surely get better.

Let's keep our fingers crossed. India is being educated at all levels about the bad effects of chemical pesticides vs good organic farming, yoga, exercise. etc. so, surely, we will see better days.

It's been postulated that those who are vegetarians have less chances of developing colon cancer as compared to meat eaters. Reason being high fibre content in their diet.

Actually as far as cancer's etiopathogenesis is concerned nobody in the whole universe is clear. I'm talking of most cancers. Certain cancers have been definitely linked to certain substances. For example tobacco.

Well the whole world can't be either veg or nonveg. Firstly the choice of food and 2ndly there isn't enough either only veg or only nonveg food for the whole world.

The risk with veg food is improper growing. Dirty water pesticides etc

the risk with nonveg food is transmission of the diseases which otherwise is found only in animals. E.g. brucellosis. Deep sea water fish are the best choice because they are supposed to be free from pollution.

Yes, most all my veg come from my garden and farm. or from friends /relatives who are growing them organically. we exchange them. I belong to an organic gardening group in kerala to gain knowledge about gardening , we exchange good seeds for free.Except for certain items like legume,jeera, mustard, etc, I try to acquire all the rest locally. We grow jackfruit, mango, papaya, banana, coconut, yam, diff veg, rice, tamarind, red and green palak, etc.the list is endless.

For the past 20 years, we always have a cow and a calf in my house, and my family uses only this cow's milk, which is fed locally grown grass, and treated well,.

So, I would say, we try to grow and eat what is locally available which is not sprayed with chemicals.

what do you say, am I not growing my own food ?
