These drugs reduces sugar uptake from kidney after filtration. Causing ketoacidosis. May result to UTI / Genital infections because of unabsorbed sugar in urine. We donot know about considering these drugs in DIABETIC treatment.

You are very correct

Each and every doctors working in corporate hospitals have their target unless they are not achieved they will be fired from the job. So just to save their jobs they are forced to do. In india most of the hospitals run by politicians and pharmacist. Hospitals also working like business organizations for profit. What we can expect from them,?. And the something happens in small clinics also.

This drug is new one and long term side effects are not known. It's action is by inhibiting reabsorption of glucose by kidneys and glucose is excreted through urine.

There are chances of urinary tract infection because of glucose in the urine.

What is the price? It must be a costly drug.

I am in the U.S. My sister is going to start taking Invokana in several weeks. She receives her care from a nurse practitioner whom she trusts and likes very much. My sister worked for the health department of her state for her entire career (as a health educator) and she is well acquainted with the politics of drug companies. However, this drug company is giving her Invokana free of charge for a year. This is great because the cost would be $500 (US) a month, which would be prohibitive. She is being instructed by her NP to drink plenty of water and to take a fish oil supplement (for the EFAs) each day, both to prevent yeast infections and UTIs. I am very hopeful that she will be able to benefit from this medication. She wants to lose weight, as she has been obese for several decades. Does anyone know about weight loss on Invokana?

My friend has reduced his weight 55 pounds since starting Invocana. He and his wife take it. They prevent infections by taking cranberry capsules which inhibit the bacteria from attaching to the walls of the bladder. Yes it is expensive but my insurance covers it.

Thank you for your response, Sandraja. I look forward to telling my sister about both the successful weight loss and cranberry pills. In your last sentence, you refer to "my insurance". Just to clarify, my sister who lives 1000 miles from me is the person to whom I am referring. I actually do not know how an e-mail from "HealthUnlocked.com/Diabetes/India" reached my inbox or why I even opened it. I am glad that I did, though. Thanks, again.

If she is being given the drug free of cost, then, it is to be assumed that she is being used as a guinea pig.
