dear Murali krishna,

pure honey (unudaltrated) is fructose, one of the molecules which forms Sucrose. it also contains equal amount of calories gm /gm as sucrose. but on the scale of sweetness fructose is 1.5 times swesweeter. Since human tongue is concerned with only sweetness one needs to add lesser amount of fructose and hence less calories intake.
