Do not know anything about insulin dosing. Just trying to understand.

Is it the same as what we use in simple maths ?

4 pens cost 50 Rs.

Therefore, how many pens can we get in 150 Rs.

Ans : (4 x 150) / 50 = 12 pens.

Similarly,

10 units of 40 IU.

Therefore how many units of 100 IU ?

Ans : (10 x 100) / 40 = 25 units.

But then, Above goes contrary to basic logic.

100 IU Insulin is 2.5 times more stronger than 40 IU insulin.

Hence, if we have been prescribed 10 Units of 40 IU insulin,

Based on concentration or whatever, shouldn't we be taking,

10/2.5 = 4 Units of 100 IU Insulin.

Like I said, Have never used or studied about insulin. So request some one knowledgeable about insulin, to throw light on my ignorance.

Edit : Correct me if this logic is also wrong :

Conclusion - You are using a 40 syringe & have been asked to dose 10 Units of 40 IU Insulin with it and

if you have a 100 IU Insulin, then using the same 40 syringe, you need to dose yourself with 4 Units of 100 IU Insulin.

Thanks

@madhulmrao & @all,

I have posted the reply without any basis. Hence request you to treat it just as a discussion & to consult your doctor, before taking any decision.

Playing with insulin is very very very dangerous.

Thanks

Both examples are correct. You are using 100IU with U40 syringe and indiacratus is using 40IU in U100 syringe.

Thanks @madhulmrao for posting your question;

Thanks @indiacratus for pointing out this thread to me, otherwise, like usual, would have skipped it, since it is concerning insulin;

Thanks @shrisamarth, for the confirmation;

Thanks to all of you, ended up educating myself a bit about insulin.

Thanks

Dear,Read the question first.

Although it is possible to calculate and use different type of syringe with diff conc of insulin,it is advisable to use the corresponding u/ml syringe for particular conc of insulin.

But still...ppl are talking about dose conversations..I hope you will understand.

Dear sir,

You r correct.

What I understand,

First think,

Sapous I am take 20 unit

100iu/ml cartridge Via pen let.

If my pen let is brake down, I can use 40iu serenge, I will take 8unit only inject (100iu liquid) via 40iu serenge.

I tink it's Wright.

Pls tell me is it Wright?

Next 2nd think,

20u dous 100iu/ml cartridge via penlet = 20u dous 40iu/ml bottel via 40iu/ml serenge.

Next 3rd think,

20unit 100iu/ml = 0.20ml

20unit 40iu/ml = 0.50ml

20unit 0.20ml 100iu/ml = 20unit 0.50ml 40iu/ml

Next 4th think,

Units are same but ml weary Depent on 100iu/ml's pen let 300iu/3ml and 400iu/10ml's 40iu/ml serenge.

Next 5th think,

suppose I am take 20unit 40iu/ml liquid

I have 40iu/ml bottele liquid, don't have 40iu/ml serenge.

But I have penlet and mt 100iu/ml cartridge.

I am filling 40iu liquid to 100iu cartridge by any unmarked serenge Oprox 3ml.

Then next I must set 50unit in penlet.

Means

20unit 100iu/ml liquid =

8unit 40iu/ml serenge for 100iu/ml liquid

20unit 40iu/ml liquid for 40iu/ml serenge = 0.5 ml

?(x) unit 40iu/ml liquid for 100iu/ml penlet =0.5ml

0.2ml = 20 unit

0.5ml = ? (x)

20unit * 0.5ml / 0.2ml = 50 unit.

So i can set 50unit for 40iu/ml liquid via penlet.

Is it correct ?

Next 6th think,

10unit 100iu/ml cartridge for penlet = 10 unit 40iu/ml bottele for 40iu/ml serenge.(not for other serenge)

Very true. I have done this while using a 40U Insulin in a 100U syringe. I used to multiply by 2.5 and take it. This was about 2 decades a go.....!!

I made a mistake recently, took 100U Insulin in a 40U syringe and followed the same method. Multiplied.. Hence instead of taking 8 Units i took 50 Units and ended up having 3 consecutive hypos over night... I squeezed my brain to think what went wrong, then remembered that I had definitely miscalculated. Simple logic, but didnt think before I did it.. Somehow survived.. :)
