Here are some other ways that alcohol can affect diabetes:--

* While moderate amounts of alcohol can cause blood sugar to rise, excess alcohol can actually decrease your blood sugar

level -- sometimes causing it to drop into dangerous levels.

* Beer and sweet wine contain carbohydrates and may raise blood sugar.

* Alcohol stimulates your appetite, which can cause you to overeat and may affect your blood sugar control.

* Alcohol can interfere with the positive effects of oral diabetes medicines or insulin.

* Alcohol may increase triglyceride levels.

* Alcohol may increase blood pressure.

* Alcohol can cause flushing, nausea, increased heart rate, and slurred speech.

MayoClinic.com indicates that B vitamin deficiencies directly affect nerve health and lack of these vitamins as well as vitamin E and niacin, contribute to polyneuropathy. Additionally, excessive use of alcohol can reduce vitamin absorption leading to symptoms of polyneuropathy.

if you cannot resist the temptation of the taste of wine, try,

dealcoholised wine available in many retail shops, as they are permitted under nonalcoholic drinks

one commercial brand is "Billbong" from australia.

Keep in fridge after opening and use within few days, or else it starts fermenting and generating alcohol again.

Unfortunately alcohol is for those who want to be unfortunate in their rest of life. Reading the news papers we find all bad elements whether rape, murder, serious accidents and so on is indulged after intoxication. It is neither recommended in our religions whether Christianity, Islamic, Hindu or others nor under any system of medicines. No doubt alcohol is base for many medicines but never suggested to take it neat or mixed with water. Hence remove it from mind and then gradually reduce to nil practically. You are aware Kingfisher Airlines wound up, in spite of king like service and Royal Challengers, Bangaluru is not reaching IPL even 2nd round despite having capable players because it is backed by liquor money. So also smoking of all kinds, unless prescribed. It is well known ITC is diversifying to other useful products including agarbathis for prayer purposes

Dear sir, king fisher is not affected by the loss in the Airlines, only the banks who provided the money. There exist a medical paper from California that moderate drinkers lived long than those who did not drink.

Sri Ranga commented "There exist a medical paper from California that moderate drinkers lived long than those who did not drink". How far it is true but not general we should analyse our knowledge and conscience. Rabinranath Tagore did not require any qualification to get conferred Nobel Prize for literature. Swami Vivekananda did not need time (since he left for heaven at the age of 39) to spread spiritual awareness. Mother Teresa did not have riches to spread charity. Even to-day's Heroes Late Dhirubhai Ambani, Gautam Adani, Bill Gates, Late G D Birla did not have money or enough education to spread in corporate world. Now you have two heroes one is HH Sri Narendra Modi starting the career as chaiwala has raised to CM and now PM of our largest democratic country that too through BJP - a right wing party against another Sri Arvind Kejriwal, a successful IITian, IRS (considered to be dream of intelligentsia). Hence we should not follow the studies that are consciously social stigmas. Moderate in any type of input is welcome. I recollect a story in which the heroine blames the raining in a city instead of in villages or forests, where it is absolutely necessary. No doctor (of any system of medicine) prescribes brandy, whisky, rum, vodka or beer (however may recommend rather give company). As far as my knowledge goes all mother tinctures under homeopathy are liquors with graded potency. Even other systems of medicine use extensively alcohol. Rather it is said nothing in this world is waste hence in English we rebuke "Useless fellow or worthless fellow" but in Indian languages we are categorical.(although may not be sure) We are really aghast to note although no religion approves intoxication yet we see our angels take somras, christian spiritual stories show taking drinks. No doubt moderate is necessity but what is moderate differs and depends on person, situation but never on statistics.

It is generally said that one peg a day keeps you physically fit, especially towards the later half of your life. Is it so? If yes, is it the same for diabetics as well?
