New diet controlled diabetic - how low carbs do I need to stay?

Hi. I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 in March this year. I declined the Metformin and instead went on a low carb diet (against my GP's advice). In June I was at normal levels, and the GP said it was being effectively diet controlled and he doesn't want to see me for 6 months, so I class that as a success. I have another long term chronic genetic condition, as well as poorly controlled hypertension (which has not responded to the diet at all), so didn't need diabetes as well.

I came on this forum just to see if you can diet control it for many years and it appears from comments that you can, so that question was answered.

I am currently eating 30g to 50g of carbs per day. Do I need to stay at that level? Is it too high/too low?

The HbA1c test 52, so I was only just in the diabetic range, and is now 42.
