Sorry if this sounds ridiculous I've just been given some news and got myself into a panic and I'm new to this group.
My 7year old daughters biological father has just informed me he has recently been in hospital in a coma and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He has told me I should maybe get her checked.
This has obviously thrown my head in a spin and wondered if anyone has any advice before I call the doctors and have a meltdown.
Thank you in advance x

I am not the best person to answer this, and I honestly someone else who has experience of this could be more help. But I know of cases where a parent is type one, and one or more of their children are type one. If this was me I would get her tested to put my mind at rest. Also this needs to be added to her family history part of her medical records, in case something happens that could be connected. It could save a lot of time finding out what's wrong. I am not trying to worry you, just being cautious.
Thank you so much I never know if I'm over reacting with these things and at the end of the day it's my daughters health that is priority. Will give the doctors a call tomorrow π
I am a type one diabetic diagnosed at the age of 13 it is highly unlikely that your daughter would have it passed from her Dad if it's going to be passed on I will skip a generation. The warning signs tho to look out for extreme thirst and fatigue weight loss urinating extremely often being able to eat and not putting on any weight pains in shins (lack of salt in bones) hope that helps! Xx
That is brilliant help thank you so much π put my mind at ease. I don't like to look these things up online as you always see the worst of it. Convinced myself I'm dying many times thanks to mr google doctor. I'm not going to panic but will give the GP a call tomorrow. Really appreciate you taking the time thank you x
Aww your welcome no problem at all! Hahaha god don't I'm the worst person with google it really does mess your head but so hard not to do! π yes I would defo speak to GP but try not worry as more likely she will fine I hope your daughters father is ok and coping it is tough tell him about a course called dafne (carb COunting training) this really helps with insulin dosages and understanding what the body needs when has the illness xxx
Googles the worst lol! Thank you I'm calm now. Sadly I won't be able to tell the father as I wouldn't have known at all if I hadn't contacted him first today. He's been absent for 3 years and to be honest it was a back handed slap in the face when he said "the dr said it's genetic you should probably get her checked.." but that's another problem for another day π€·π»ββοΈ
