Hi, I have been newly diagnosed with Diabetes Type II and was given a prescription for Gluconorm. I don't like medicine as I am already of pills for Hypertension and Cholesterol. I am committed to changing my diet and start exercising instead of taking the pills. Is there anyone in agreement. Thank you

Thank you. I have decided to consult a nutritionist and try to resolve without pills.

Nice to know it works for you.

What did your Endocrinologist say about the issue? When is your next appointment?

I am all in favour of what you are trying to do Ericrae but it is vital you know what is going on inside your body in order to succeed. Have you got a blood glucose meter yet ?

I bought one today but have not used it as yet. I did also go to a health shop and got alternative medicine and I will start on those before taking pills.

There's no need to go over the top with the meter but I suggest you take a reading before you go to bed, another before breakfast and one before your main meal of the day. Keep records of your readings for a week to begin with. By then you should have a fair idea of how your body is performing. I'd be very interested to know what the health shop sold you !

Lady from the health shop gave me Nicine - 2 in the morning for 3 days and then once a day. Then Cholesterol & Diabetic support 30 drops 3 times a day.

Also gave me circulation capsules 1 to 2 per day.

I am nervous stopping my treatment for high blood pressure and Cholesterol but I will consult with my GP during the week. Statin does have side effects and I would be happy to stop all pills.

A large pizza!!

Hi. I have type 2 and I control mine with diet and excercise. My blood sugar was 19 when I found out I had it 5 years ago and my eyesight was really bad and I slept all the time. Like you I take a lot of other meds and didn't want to take any more. I started with the diet. The doc gave me a diet sheet and I worked out what I could and couldn't eat and the sugar came down to 9.2. That's when I started excercising and now it's 6.4. That's ok for me. I've fell off the wagon a few times and it started to creep up but I manage to get it back down. And I lost 18lbs. I also have fibromyalgia and brittle asthma so I have to do things in moderation but I'm ok. Good luck and take care xx

That's a positive message. I have visited a nutritionist and changed my diet radically. Also exercising. Thank you for the post!

Hi I forgot to say I do my blood sugar before breakfast every couple of days. When I used to do it after every meal I realised it took 3 hrs for my BS to come back down and that is ok. Not everyone is the same. I always drink a pint of water first thing before I do BS because if your dehydrated it will give a higher reading. Personally I wouldn't stop the meds nor would I take the alternative products . You can do it through diet. xx

A pizza contains a lot of carbohydrate, that's why your blood glucose went from 5.4, which is a good reading, to 11 which is bad.

Please be very careful when seeking advice from health shops and nutritionist, these people will not always have full knowledge about diabetes.

At this stage it is so important to keep your blood sugars between 4 and 7, this can be achieved by following a high fat/low carb diet which will keep you blood sugars in good range. If you keep to this, with excercise you will find you could keep off medication.

Why did you eat a large pizza, were you told that it was ok to eat? Just curious because you said that you went to see a nutritionist, a pizza is one of the worst things for diabetes, your blood test proved that.

All the best
