What has anyone taken when having a bad cold? I can't take cough syrup. antihistamines, decongestants, etc...It is Saturday and I have been sick for three days. It's also in my chest with a very bad deep cough, but no fever and not coughing up anything! Can anyone give me suggestions? Thank You.
I take the same thing Eric.Great over the counter med in various forms, they have it for high blood pressure(HBP)etc. Its spelled Coricidin, its been around a while.
After all the bad reactions to meds, and so many drugs are spelled almost the same,I make sure I know what to tell the drs. etc what I am taking.Recommended dosage is 1 or 2 pills every 4-6 hours, start out with 1 until you know how it works for you.Good luck
LOL!! My Mother-in -Law always said a hot-toddy would work! She heated, whiskey (any kind will do), honey, and lemon! But with all my meds I'm afraid to try it!
A good old fashioned Scottish Hot Toddy works wonders.
You need:-
1 glass tumbler
Freshly boiled water
1 teaspoon clear honey (Heather honey is best)
1 Teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon Glycerine
1 Double Blended Scotch Whisky (no sense wasting the best Malt whisky for this)
Method:-
First get into bed with the covers pulled up. Put the honey, glycerine and lemon juice into the tumbler, add the whisky, then fill with the boiling water. Stir briskly, and drink it as hot as you can tolerate.
If that doesn't cure it, a second toddy might be needed to combat the cold. Maximum recomended dose is 3 toddies. After that, you'll be flying anyway, and won't notice the cold, so why bother fooling around making toddies all night - just drink the remainder of the whisky.
No meds get rid of a cold, they just mask the symptoms. Boil up ginger and add honey and lemon ( and garlic and chilli if you're brave). And take loads of vitamin C. There's a herbal medicine called Sambucol that is good for colds too. Most importantly REST!
Thank you to all of you for your advice! This is more than a cold! It's either, whooping cough (which is going around in our area), sinus inf., or strep throat! Going to morrow to get tests done at my primary doc. I am on Azithromycin 250 mg. as of yesterday! Drinking lots of fluids, tea with lemon and honey, etc.. and resting!
I like Mucinex or the generic equivalent. And an occasional benedryl. But PD grabs everything and tentuples it! My neuro believes in not being cautious when it comes to infection, so when I can't get it from my GP, he will prescribe. I try not to go there because of effect on my poor gut! Feel better! Get some good movies to play, funny ones!
You can taken over the counter Mucanex it has not med reaction what so ever, a herbal tea from the grocery store and hot steam and Vick vapor becarefull not to use to much just a dab under the nose and use a towel over the head breathe some steam just keep mosture in the air.
Thanks Kadie! It is strep throat and sinus infection! So on the Z-Pack now and already feeling some what better! Thank you everyone for your help! I will remember your suggestions for the next time!
Wow it just depends on the type of PD meds your on, of coarse you should always read the box. The pharmacist may know or not , I had one send cough syrup home with my husband that I couldn't take I read the box the pharmacist did not.
I think the best thin to do, is to always ask the pharmacist before taking any over the counter meds.
Coricidin. I was neurotic when I caught a bad cold this summer. I feel as if I'm taking so many pills (as I'm sure you all feel), and didn't want anything to counteract anything that I was on. I asked the pharmacist...explained what I was taking...and the rest is history. Good luck and feel better!!!
I WOULD NOT BE WITHOUT THIS. YOU GET IT AT A VITIMIN STORE. 3 EVERY THREE HOURS. GET THT PILLS NOT THE CAPSULS..
I TAKE WHEN I FIRST FEEL SOMETHING COMING ON AND IT KNOCKS IT RIGHT OUY.
Jaynie, That is what it is called? Wellness Formula? Thank you,
Blessings,
Carol
My gran used to boil up a half pint of milk, add a little fine oatmeal (to thicken like gruel) some grated lemon peel on lump sugar. when it was boiled she then added one ounce of grated suet stirred in.
wrap a cloth round pot to keep it hot and drink.
It certainly loosens a chesty cough and no chemicals or alcohol.
