Anyone know what to do for chronic cough ( excessive phlegm and mucous ) in the am upon arising?
I have benefited from this forum so much.... - Cure Parkinson's
I have benefited from this forum so much. I want to acknowledge my gratitude on Thanksgiving Day!Has anyone dealt with a chronic cough?
Parkinson's causes so many different symptoms it is easy to blame everything on it. However, as far as I know the cough is not a Parkinson's symptom. It may be chronic bronchitis or allergies. Has anything changed in your home environment that might be causing a reaction? Did this start with a cold or flu? Since this has been going on for a while a doctor's visit would be in order.

Suggest you consider gastric reflux until that possibility is eliminated. Also suggest you stay away from the usual pharmaceuticals if possible if indeed you do have it. I had it for years and found the meds harsh and with many side effects. You could try Heartburn Relief (yes, thats actually the name😃) by Enzymatic Therapy. Pretty amazing. If you have reflux, it will help it. If you don’t, it won’t hurt you. A big plus is that you don’t have to take it all the time. Every other day for a month and you’re good for a couple of months without. Reflux (Gerd) is a common condition.
Hi! My husband has this symptom - could be his Lyme, could be Parkinson's or could be something else. He went to an ENT dr and had some tests done. For over 20 years he's had heartburn and reflux and takes meds. For the Lyme disease (before we knew he had lyme) he had lungs checked, chest x-ray, endoscopy and more. Final diagnosis possibly allergies. He did not have any allergy tests done. Blood pressure medicine side affect is a cough and/or clearing of throat. Went off meds for a few weeks under dr's guidance and it wasn't the bp meds.
This clearing of throat (from the phlegm and mucous) seems to occur when he's driving. He states happens throughout the day but when he is driving its almost constant. I haven't noticed if this occurs only in morning. I'll keep a watch.
If you find out what is causing this please let me know. I do think lemon with water could be a great help. Three years ago when diagnosed with Lyme Disease they told him to drink lemon water daily.
I was having that, but my primary care doc correctly diagnosed that as a side effect of blood pressure meds Lisinopril. I changed by meds and the cough went away.
