The thing I have found with PD is the quirky and unexpected, so what is 'normal' becomes a bit tricky to answer! I guess I look at it as what is symptomatic of PD rather than it being something else like flu. But here I can offer some insight, toe curling was my first symptom and my big toe is practically all numb. Yes it was painful when I had shoes on, and some I couldn't keep on at all. I am pleased to say that numbness is the only thing that remains since I have been on Levadopa. So for now, at least I have some respite. Funnily I found those wacky socks with 'toes' helped. I figured it was common but wasn't sure if the numbness was from Parkinsons or diabetes. Either way it's not nice.

Yep, me too. I have one toe that is determined to hide beneath the one next to it, makes it tricky to walk at times, especially in sandalls!

I had that with pretty bad cramping in my legs, dr called it dystonia, fairly common in PD. He prescribed amantadine and it started to work in a couple days, now rarely have much pain or curling.

My toe curling was the symptom that got me to a neurologist. I also have what one neuro referred to as hitvhhiker toe (big toe points up). Meds have not worked, surgery was a bust and caused more problems, so now I get botox injections every three months. A little pain when the shots go in, but it causes those muscles to relax within 10 days..Good luck to you. I hope you find something that works for you.

My big toe points up and the others go down causing pain in the arch and up the back of my calf. Where did they inject the botox--big toe?

I get several injections. Two too the back of the calf and three in the bottom of the foot. It is called EMG, I don't know what that means but it uses a machine to let the doc know he is hitting the right muscle group. They also prescribed me a lidocaine lotion to apply to help with the sting of the injections. Hope this helps. Good luck.

my latest symptom is toe curling (clutching really) on my right (non-affected ) foot. makes it scary to get around and make coffee, etc. do not want to trip and fall! I have to put on rigid shoes until meds kick in , which I hate. I am always barefoot indoors. normal? what's normal for pwp's???

My toes curl on my left foot. The joint on my 2nd & 3rd toe looks deformed now. It is usually more comfortable when I wear shoes or slippers. I had 2 fractures in my left foot in April and the dr didn't realize it til May. He thought it was gout. I think it's time for a new doctor.

Definitely- for me the toe numbing and foot cramping usually indicates that I will have to rest or cope. IF I had a front row ticket on Broadway I would definirtely put up with this symptom and massage feet toes ankles, and wear supportive shoes.

As far as diagnosis - I wouldn't stay with the doctor who thought you had gout. I have in switched docs myself, and have found that second opinions can make a big difference

I have it too, but then so did my mother, father and sister and they did not have PD. I must have been the least lucky: bunions, toes curl and overlap, are numb and cold a lot. Hereditary bad fee, for sure. PD complications on top, probably. Had custom shoes made. Maybe they are helping, but I am not sure.
