I have taken it for sleep. It worked very well for me. It stopped the vivid dreams and my husband no longer fears for his life. LOL!!!

I took it for 4 days (.5 mg) for restful sleep and severe hallucinations upon waking. It made me so sick I was not in this world for 3 days! Doc stopped it immediately. And so at bedtime I now take one Xanax 1 mg, one Citalopram HBR 10 mg. and one Aleve 200 mg. for pain. Hope this helps.

Shakedaddy here.I was dx. 12 yrs ago. My first Dr. gave me klonipin (clonazepam).Took it for 4 yrs and I thought it was doing me good ' I finally asked my new (and CURRENT) neuro. Come to find out that clonazepam does nothing for pd......in fact it can be very addicting! Witness the fact that I quit 15 years ago both alcohol and tobbaco cold turkey no problem. Took 3 tries for clonazepam w/ serious withdrawal symptoms every time and finally did it! I suggest questioning ur neuro or 2nd opinion, hope this helps you!!:0)

remember.... "shake-a-leg !"

I've been on it for a year and had great success. Went from 2 hours of sleep to usually 5 hours before I get up to pee. Then back for two more hours and no side effects. Dx 12 yrs.

I agree with Shakedaddy. I was given klonopin (clonazepam) and found that it is highly addictive. If I even was a few hours late with a dose I would start going through severe withdrawals. It took me a very long time to finally get free from the drug and even then it was not very pleasant. I was given klonopin in the hospital after a medical procedure and that one dose brought back the feelings of addiction almost instantly. It was a scary feeling! I would not touch it again if I had to. In fact, I now have it listed as an allergy on my medical records per my doctor's orders.

I'm told xanax is much more addictive than klonopin because it is more potent but shorter lived. I take xanax 1/2 dose (.25 mg) once or twice a day for dystonia pain , At night I take .5 klonopin together with melatonin and valerian. I usually sleep well with pleasant dreams. I'd love to find a nutritionist in NYC and get off these since on Medicare I have to pay out of pocket and I am a recovering alcoholic. I'm curious what symptoms of withdrawal are. Thanks

Do an internet search for Linda Prout, nutritionist. She seems extremely knowledgeable and does consulting via email and USPS.

I'm extremely tired and have no energy many days of the month. With anemia, congestive heart failure (CHF), insomnia, hormonal deficiencies, and PD with severe restless legs (RLS) I don't sleep much. I've tried everything including Klonopin.Only thing that works is Oxycodone and I fear addiction so use it only when symptoms are severe. A new hematologist and nutritionist said recently Klonopin in not a good drug and side effects include no energy and exhaustion. I stopped Klonopin. Maybe the extensive blood analysis I'm getting will uncover something.

I have RLS with my PD if I don't take Pramipexole (Mirapexin or Mirapex).

For RLS this is taken in a low dose. It is also used in (usually early) treatment of PD in larger doses.

It is a dopamine agonist and is one of those PD drugs which if taken in too large a dose can encourage obsessional behaviour, gambling and such like.

This is not a problem that I have as the dose I take, although more than needed to treat RLS, is still not excessive.

my RLS is horrible and frequently intolerable. The meds don't "kick in" all the time and only very vigorous exercise, pounding the knee joints with a light hammer or placing the nerve being affected in a vise (which I improvise in the car using the seat control with knees against he dash) . No one can imagine the agony of RLS. I could tell of incidences in hospitals no on would believe. I've and my medical advisers have tried it all and nothing works (but haven't used the two you do).......RLS controls my life.

They change me from Temazipam to Clonazipam because of REM irregularity.

I would yell in my sleep, wake myself up. On the Clonazipam I didn't sleep at all. Our metabolisms are all different so all we can do is try different medicaqtions until we find one that works for us.

I don't fight it any more and do what my body tells me. When I sleep it's max of three hours. Sleep only comes with total exhaustion. A rare good sleep one night/day is followed by two nights basically awake. Meds are "killers" and I avoid them for sleep, e.g. Ambien had me falling asleep on my feet. I fell and crashed against the wall. That's when I stopped the sleep meds. If I take the meds and go to bed I can't sleep as R:S forces me to get up and stretch/exercise. I'm tired and weak most of the time..FIN

Export my hubby was not one of the ones who answered but he takes Clonazipam. Has for 9 yrs now. He uses it to calm his anxitey and to sleep. He started at 5 mg. 3 times a day. He has now lowered it to 0.5 mg 3 times a day and most days 2 times a day. He does have trouble sleeping almost every night though. He will sleep about 3 hours and then wake. He also has problems getting comfortable. He has back pain, neck pain, or just not comfortable. We had to get him a comfy recliner for the living room. He will go sit and recline and finally fall asleep. We had to try a couple of chairs before we found the right one. Sadly though it does not always work either.

...the pattern you descries fits me to a "T" also. I once took Klonopin, but for lengthy reasons two med professionals, i.e., an M.D. and nutritionist, said "stop". I took two Trasadone last week and my central nervous system froze up - I couldn't sleep and couldn't move except to pee for three hours. I think I can keep laughing at things at least for now. Jose - happy in the USA...

Patv When you say they are more addictive. Do you mean you mean you have to take more and more or once you have started it hard to stop . me if it works, why would you want to stop. I would like to know what you call addictive ???

I was addicted to nicotine. I stopped smoking 30 years ago. After quitting my withdrawal was agony. I couldn't write my name - the desk surface kept bobbing up and down. I worked but did physical tasks only. At times my body felt as if ants were crawling all over it. Drop by a half way house and listen to the pain alcoholics go through - that's addiction/withdrawal.

Hi Export. I'm not sure I understood your question. If you mean how do I put up with my husband not sleeping and tossing and turning in bed. Well, I have to say, it is hard but I am not working right now. I can sleep late if I have a bad night. I do get frustrated but I tell myself that it has to be 100 times worse for my hubby. I just don't sleep but I am comfortable and he is in pain and never comfortable!! That always seems to keep me quite and try to think of new ways to help him....

It hurts me soooo much to see him this way. Sadly he is not the same person he was anymore. But that is not his fault either. He tries soooo very hard to stay positive and in a good mood. He does not want to be an angry man or hard to get along with. I appreciate soooooo much how he thinks of me. He tells me this all the time and I know he means it!!!! He keeps trying for me!! He wants to be here with me as long as our good Lord want's him to be, though some days he wishes it was his time. He talks to me all the time about what he is feeling and I try to do the same. I sometimes don't want to hear it all because it hurts soooo much. But I know there isn't any one else that understands what he is going through. He needs to vent. He has no friends who have PD and he does not get on this site for support though I still wish and pray that he will.

you also said the nueros put you off. We have tried 5 different doctors here in Texas. All in our own city, San Antonio, We didn't like many at all!! It is very hard to find a good doctor. We are happy now with the one we have. He is a young man with a good demeanor. He laughs, and jokes with us. Tries to be upbeat. He also listens very well to what we tell him and tries to keep my husband and his meds just right. We are staying put with him for now anyway!!

If I did not answer what you asked me I'm sorry. Ask again and I will try my best!! LOL!! :-) Have a good Export!!
