Just one question has any one taken Seleg... - Cure Parkinson's
Just one question has any one taken Selegiline for your PD.

Bailey, do a search. There have been many posts about it.
I take Selegiline. Helps a little bit.
Yes! I took a monotherapy of Selegiline between 1994 and 2002, and have not needed to take any Pd medication since then.
I am newly diagnosed with PD less than 2 months ago age 51. I just ordered your book. I have been taking low dose Sinemet for 6 weeks and my new neurologist just prescribed rasagiline along with sinemet. Did you ever take levodopa and if so how did you get off of it? I am also wary of the rasagiline as well.
Hi Serbona, There is no medication on the market that does anything to slow down the progression of Pd. Having said that; I have to ask why any of us takes any Pd medication? The answer is to give temporary relief to some of our symptoms. That relief is very temporary, lasting less than twenty-four hours. Unfortunately, we have to take more and more medication to get the same relief. We then get to the point where we can get no further relief, But the side effects can be very damaging.
There is only one way that I know of to reverse some of the symptoms of Pd an that is FAST WALKING. WE can all do fast walking if we set our minds to it. Many people are not prepared to even give it a try. Just look around you and see how many people, particularly women, who walk our streets every second day, for RUN/WALK for LIFE?
You pay your money and you take your choice!
Hello john same old shit. So drugs only work for 24 hours Thats a new one. funny mime have been working for 14 years.
I took it for a couple of months. The side effects were too difficult for me. Weeklong migraine headaches. Even with diet restrictions. Selegiline metabolizes to methamphetamine, interestingly, and caused me to sweat a lot too. Good luck buddy!
I took one a day for several weeks and x2/day for a week, in conjunction with 1/2 Sinemet x3/day to see if it reduces tremor. I didn't notice any difference.
Hi Bailey,
I’ve taken only rasagiline since my 08/17 diagnosis at age 80. Because most of my symptoms were, and are, non-motor, a DaT scan was used to confirm the neurologist’s judgement.
Results: my motor symptoms have increased only slightly; anxiety has decreased; irritability has remained the same (high). I have no idea what rasagiline’s role has been in all this, esp. as I keep In mind what John Pepper says about medicines’ limitations.
Good luck, Bailey. Best, Anna
And I dont know why he has to keep telling us that meds for PD dont cure, nor do meds for diabetes or hypothyroid ....the list is endless. As to side effects, what does JP know if he never took them. By the way the last neuro he saw said he did not have idiopathic PD.
I try tried it twice. The first time I awoke with a bad headache and a systolic bp in the 150s.. This is very high for me... The second time I started having worsening pd symptoms before my first c/l dose (when I usually have no pd symptoms$...
FYI I am giving entacapone another look (a COMT inhibitor)... I am on my third day with no unexpected wearing offs. I also had some protein eArlier in the day, and it hasn’t caused me to wear off yet ( knock on wood). For the first time in months I am feeling some optimism...
Thanks for all the replies except John Pepper.
I take 3 25/100 carbidopa levodopa every 4 hours, 1 300 mg gabapentgin and 1 2 mg ropinirole 3 times a day.

Hi Bailey - selegeline is a much older molecule, rasagiline is the one to go for, as it doesn't have the amphetamine-like breakdown products. I've been on it for 7 years with no problems at all.
