How does PD effect work , and when do you just call it quits. How does the disability work
How does PD effect work?: How does PD... - Cure Parkinson's
How does PD effect work?
You will know when it is time to call it quits - your body will tell you. Do you live in the UK? Tony
I had to quit when I was 47 yrs old and went on ssd . I would recommend you hire a lawyer when you file fir ssd.
I worked for 5 years as a school teacher after I was diagnosed with PD. I think you'll recognize when it's time to stop working.
You just get the forms from Medicare and have the appropriate people fill them out and mail them in. It's a lot of paper work, but it's doable. I got approved the first time, but there was a waiting period. { I can't remember how long .} I hope this helps you feel better. Blessings.
I only taught 1 1/2 years after being diagnosed with PD.
I also recommend you start out with an attorney for your disability. I filed the first time myself, a lot of work. I was denied.
An attorney has filed so many they know exactly what to say, how to say it and when to say it.
I agree based on my daughter's experience after a brain tumor and TBI.
Oh Holly I just love your question. Honey, you will KNOW when it is time to quit. I was starting to have undiagnosed problems beginning in 2008. I was getting worse and worse till I was airlifted to the hospital in Orlando. A little old neuro doc says to me have I ever been asked to try meds for Parkinson's? Said no and he gave me the pills and started to do better. Never saw him again. Retired on me. Went to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and saw my doc there and the ride continues. That was March 2010. During that time I had doctors told me to stop working the whole time even without a diagnosis. We will get you on SSD, don't worry about money. I was like, I'm not quitting my job!! You people are crazy. Well, I am 47 on Friday and I am on SSD now for 2 years. And I was an idiot for fighting my body and it almost killed me. It was telling me the whole time but men are stupid as a rule and need to learn the hard way. Listen to you body, it will tell you when the time has come to stop, and STOP!!

It is not just my body it is also my working conditions they are begining to get more and more stressful, and so many of the people I work with are not all that helpful . The stress as manyof you know aggrevates alot of the symtoms. I also carry the medical insurance for the family. Once I stop working we have one year.then the insurance is gone. I still have 1 child at home she graduates next year,I don't want it to be any harder on her then it has to be.
worked in healthcare for 5 yrs after diagnosis-----increased fatigue and painful feet added to decision to retire at 65===1 yr shy of full retirement age-----I was allowed to use a cane on good days and a rolling walker on not so good ones but when I realized I could no longer meet the needs of my position I knew it was time-------------had had a very rewarding 46 yr nursing career. Retired in 4/11 was encouraged to apply for disability in 8/11 by an agent in local SS office---approved 1st time without attorney but other issues with SS has created more stress then it was worth.
depends on where you are and what you do. I believe under ADA in the US you're supposed to get accommodations as long as it will enable you to do your job. I was dx at 64 worked 3 more years and retired because of injuries not PD. Also better cash flow after retirement. Good luck.
