Just wondering if anyone uses nicotine on their "bad days" to gain some relief from their PD symptoms? Not regular use, just on days as needed. And if you do what form smoke, vape, gum, patch, etc. Just looking for something to get through the bad patches.

You realize of course that nicotine is the single most addictive substance known (equivalent or more to heroin), so just bothering to find out by trying it runs the risk of serious addiction whether it works for you or not. So when it comes to that, you don't try it too casually. It may help or it may not, or it may help quite a bit, but you may have to get used to having a monkey on your back.
I have been using nicotine gum for several months and there are NO indications of addiction. I have to remind myself to use the nicotine gum and often forget.
Yes a lot of people use it as a stimulant, for mood attention and focus etc, and energy level, and to keep the appetite for calories down, like with cigs and chewing tobacco and it helps with things stimulants help with. Just a precaution because of what nicotine is. It's a famously addictive alkaloid stimulant and once you're hooked it's very difficult to get off of it. Better to know that going in don't you think? Yes of course it is. And that you don't perceive any addiction in the way that you've used it doesn't mean somebody else won't, and in that case, of course you're not offering any refunds on your guarantee now are you? Better to be a calculated risk and to find out later when it's too bad too late.
I use Lucy Nicotine Gum 2mg. It is sugar-free. It helps me.
Yes I do but I wouldn't suggest cigarettes. I smoke a pipe where you do not inhale but get the benefits of nicotine. Pipe smoking is considered a hobby not a habit because pipe smokers don't suffer the addiction.
I wish I could remember the article but a guy by the name Dr Bryan Ardis talks about the benefits of nicotine, not cigarettes and all the addictives, nicotine by itself which is not addictive, and you can use a patch or gum I believe, supposed to help with PD,
Oh yes now I remember, what a relief, of course it is not addictive. nida.nih.gov/publications/r...
I use patches – they really help with an intense sharp pain that I get my shoulder joint.
It is a myth that nicotine is addictive. It is all the other chemicals put in cigarettes and vapes that cause the addiction, not nicotine itself.
Bryan Ardis recommends 7 mg per day over several weeks for people with Parkinson’s. I am nowhere near that much at the moment.
Yes I'm sure you're right there's no way nicotine is addictive. You just want to be careful. For instance, nida.nih.gov/publications/r...
I can see you hold a strong opinion on this, based on your work in helping people with substance abuse and the research you have cited. I appreciate you sharing your experience so that we can all make informed choices.
I know where I stand on this and I am happy and confident with my choice, while fully appreciating that we are all different and come at life with a different model of the world.
I just share what I do to give another perspective, (or not, if people choose to ignore that’s fine by me) because one thing I have learned is that there is no truth for all of us and what is life but a whole bunch of personal perspectives through which we make decisions?!
one theory is that it's the lithium not the nicotine that helps
I use nicotine on most days - 3mg. The key is i use water to deliver as I find it very controlled on the delivery unlike patches. In addition I makes sure I consume min 2 liters of water daily. Win win.
wow, the comments are INSANE in this thread!
"pipe smoking is a hobby, not a habit"
"nicotine is not addictive"
"it's the lithium not the nicotine that helps"
Im not calling you guys out, Im just astonished. Maybe these things are true, maybe not. I am not claiming to know anything. In this crazy world, I believe anything is possible if it sounds plausible, and at the same time I believe nothing!
I've been using Zyn and On pouches, lately, the lowest dose, when I hang out with smokers to squash cravings for cigs. It helps with the cravings. Im not really sure if it helps my PD symptoms. It hasnt been consistent enough to say for sure. Im afraid to use a higher dose because (of the alleged myth that) nicotine is addictive.
I do recall years ago when I was trying to quit smoking because I became the lead vocalist of a band. I used the gum. I recall it really boosted my focus when we were recording tracks, so maybe it bumped up the dopamine. Possibly.
Good luck!
Yes, of course everybody does know that it's not addictive. As for example this: nida.nih.gov/publications/r...
MarionP are you an ex-smoker?
Nope. Psychologist trained in substance abuse. Got paid to get people out of such things after they've gotten into it. One of the things they always said was "if I'd have known more beforehand I could have made a rational choice." By the way it's why 99% of smokers start as kids, nobody starts as adults...by then they're too smart.
Good quality green tea prepared properly at 80C and steeped for 30-45s would have a great effect for me. I make two liters and this is all I drink until noon.
Green tea or match are wonderful...slightly energised zen 😊
My understanding is that nicotine IS addictive, but then so is coffee. I also understand that nicotine has an anti-inflammatory effect through cholinergic / parasympathetic system. I'd consider that addiction to nicotine is not nearly as much of a problem as addiction to smoking due to all the carcinogenic/toxic chemicals in tobacco.

Just saw this on X (twitter). Its a video of a guy named Dr Bryan Ardis explaining how Nicotine is not a drug, it is a nutrient found in vegetables such as peppers and celery. At the 1:03 mark, he says
NICOTINE IS PROVEN TO PREVENT AND REVERSE PARKINSONS DISEASE ALL BY ITSELF.
Then he goes on to talk about other benefits of nicotine. And he says nicotine is not addictive, it is the chemical Pyrazine that makes it addictive. And he cites many medical articles. You can believe it, or not, if you dont want to. But its certainly worth exploring further.
As I post this, I searched for more information and found this podcast by him, for you to peruse at your leisure.

Note - credibility issue - he sells supplements. Claims Taurine, Selenium and Foreign Protien Cleanse product, which he sells, cures Parkinsons, too. And he claims its all backed by research.
Im going to post this as its own post since there is a lot of information here.
