I recently had a hip replacement surgery . I suffered from pain constantly for 5 years due to bone on bone. Hip. The surgery we nt well until I had a UTI infection. Almost immediately my med,and carbodopa began to not be as responsive . Prior to this I could depend on my meds taken. 5×s a day to get me thru the day. I was taking nitrofurantoin 100 mg 2x a day. I NOTICED I COULDNOT WALK AS WELL and my dyskinesia was through the roof . I kept looking for the signs that my med was. working each morning with my first dose which would be yaw ning and stretching. To my horror it wasn't working. I had been fairly independent, driving my own car managing my home with my 91 year old mother and caring for h er. Now she was having to care for me. I had to hold onto the walls to get around when my walker wouldn't go. My hands shake sobad I cannot pay my bills on my computer because my hands shake so. I contacted my neurologist after I. Suspected the antibiotic. My neurologist said the UTI itself could mess with my brain and I found information on the internet. She. Said she hoped I would recover but in the meantime I am practically helpless. My neurologist has changed my med to extended release at my request to help with the dyskinesia. I started the med 2 o r 3 days ago and it does seem to a little less intense but so far is not being absorbed by my body. I am getting PT for my hip and tomorrow will be the first time I have gone since my catastrophic breakdown. I will contact my neurologist to see what she thinks ican do. I am scared. Has anybody reading this been in this situation and eventually recovered? I am afraid I will end up in a nursing home.

I think you are correct to suspect the antibiotic as they are known for disturbing the gut microbiome balance while PD itself is known for doing the same. There are several probiotics discussed on this forum that forum members have reported benefit from toward symptom improvement. PS-128 would be one of those probiotics. Higher dose inulin can also be additive to probiotics in promoting more healthful gut bacteria.

My mom was hospitalized twice with UTIs, once we really thought she was going to die. She had to be intubated and was extremely altered. But she recovered and is doing really well. That was three years ago.
UTI's can for sure affect Parkinson's. I seem to recall park_bear commenting on this issue
I had similar issues and here’s what I learned…
Any kind of infection or surgery can cause these kinds of problems, but at least partial recovery is possible. Be sure to use a walker until you are completely stabilized. If you don’t have experience with walkers, seek instructions on how to choose and safely use a walker. Your PT may be able to help or you may find some safety online. You don’t want to fall. And add to your problems.!
if taking any optional medications for pain or sleeping try to stop them, this will help you recover faster. actually, extended release CL can cause problems with walking so you may want to go back to your old CL dosage. Ask your a bit more immediate rather than taking release CL
And watch out for PT because certain moves can make it more difficult to recover. Avoid any exercise that causes new nerve pain irritation
as for paying bills using an online bill paying service., which is available through most banks and you can speak your Amounts rather than writing them which makes things a lot easier
The bottom line is be hopeful and cautious. Move.as much as you can with gentle non-weight-bearing exercise. Try going back to immediate release CL. Use a walker.,
ask for encouragement from friends, family, and medical professionals because when we feel discouraged or anxious our Parkinson’s gets worse.
