I've written to US NLM regarding the difference of advice given when taken the co-careldopa pill, as follows....Thank you for contacting the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). The details of your message are listed below. You can expect to hear from us within 2 to 5 business days. For additional information about NLM products and services, please visit support.nlm.nih.gov.

Case Information:

Case #: CAS-1292059-S7P5D5

Summary: Co-careldopa dosage timing

Details:  I read quite frequently about the best time to take the co-careldopa pill.

Advice varies between 30 mins before food and and 2 hoirs after food. The

main reason, is it has to battle with the protein intake. Other advice

given, is it depends on what us eaten i.e. a small amount of protein..an

egg, its OK not to leave a gap But high protein i.e. a Steak 30 mins

before or 90 mins after. When my wife's MDD increased her pill to 4

times a day and asked about the eating times, he just rolled his eyes as if to

indicate, it doesn't matter. Your guideless say on an empty stomach, 1

hour before or 2 hours after food. Any more clarification of this

advice would be helpful.

I was a little tripped by Co-careldopa. A google search indicates Co-careldopa and Sinemet (Carbidopa/Levodopa) are the same.

It’s a shame that time to take rules our life. I was once on 5 times a day and was losing weight that I did not need to lose. Fortunately, my doctor was a little flexible on times, I am now on 3 times a day (2, 2 and 1-1/2).

I am a little perplex on how can they have a time release version if when to eat is all that important.

To achieve consistent results, don’t eat during the 45mins after taking a tablet to give it a chance to work. Once you’ve eaten you then need to wait for the food to pass beyond your stomach, so leave 2hrs after food before taking the next dose.

I find I get 3hrs benefit from each tablet, so I get a small window to eat if I just go by the clock. However I’ve found that I can move or stretch that window by taking an extra quarter to half a tablet here and there to buy me more time so long as I don’t take too much and trigger dyskinesia.

I started a post on this recently. It is a very long post so to save you I can summarise it thus: I have PD and I still need meds BUT food can affect my PD and/or my meds to the point where I can barely move my arms, legs, and hands and have to rely on help. That is where I found myself in 2023. I upped my meds 50% to some effect but when I cut dairy, eggs and meat from my diet AND cut protein down to a very small amount along with cutting way down on gluten all that went away and now you wouldn’t know I had PD.
