Tremors only on one side

Does anyone have tremors on one compleat side 12 years after diagnosis with Parkinson's disease from toes to head but only on one side nothing has helped stop them they have gotten worse over time I also deal with anxiety and panic disorder I have noticed when I have a panic attack and take Xanax ( only about 2 times a month that it tends to calm my tremors why is that could it be I've been misdiagnosed ? I just don't know why Parkinson's meds have made no change. Few other symptoms I've noticed my toes curl on my bad side and my hand on that side wants to stay clinched I have to consciously relax them I'm confused any advice?

Do you mind me asking if the symptoms you describe are present 24/7 or you have periods during the day when they completely subside?

I'm experiencing whole-body shaking, bilateral from head to toe, but only when I take levodopa. When the anti-Parkinson's medication (in my case Madopar) starts to wear off things improve and I am back to normal. Just like you, I have been wondering if I might have been misdiagnosed.

Could you be on to much medication?

I thought so too, however my Neurologist seems to think that my medication should be increased simply because time has passed and presumably my Parkinson's is getting worse.

Not an expert, but given the vast differences in PD patients, it seems odd to base increasing dosage on years in.

That’s what they all say. I reckon it’s the breakdown products of the levodopa causing it. Try taking less closer together. So the same amount in a day. Avoid taking levodopa with food.

My husband finds clonazapam(Xanax) helps. He takes 1.25 of a 0.5 mg tablet per day, cut into quarters and spread over the day. It has a long half life so it slowly builds up in the blood to a steady stage and it really helps him.

Thank you for the information. I appreciate it!

For me tremors are consistent I'm currently taking Rytary but over the years have been on several with.no effect I don't understand why the antianxiety meds could calm it if it is really Parkinson's

I wish I knew the answer to your question.I experience a great relief from tremors if I take Reboxetine which is an antidepressant (Noradrenaline Reuptake Inhibitors)..

My PD nurse commented that this was an unexpected side effect of the medication which was very welcome. Unfortunately, I can't stay on it as it affects my heart rate and I have to take more medication to control the effect of the Reboxetine which is fundamentally wrong.

I have sometimes increased hand and leg tremors and lip quivering and toe curling, about 1/2 hr after c/l , 2 hours after c/l and occasionally when the c/l is wearing off. This is also related to my issue with constipation. I get gas and bloating primarily on my right side. When the tremors, ,lip quivering and toe curling occur if I press on the valve on the right side it usually relives it. If I get physically active that helps. Stress exacerbates it. I am trying to get the constipation evaluated and see if I can get some relief. What is really strange is that it doesn’t always happen. I’m interested in hearing people’s responses to your question.

I also have constipation when on c/l I hear people talk about wearing off but honestly I notice no difference in time lapse but I continue to take it hoping it will work.

I do not take meds. It's been nearly 2 years since diagnosis for me. I too have tremor only on one side. The tremor stops if I meditate (for the most part), and is gone when I sleep. I also struggle with anxiety but am working through that with therapy. I do believe we have been misdiagnosed. There may be something that the establishment has not yet discovered or more likely not been willing to accept as a possibility.

I've been on Rytary for 3 years. I've had a tremor in my dominant hand for 5 years. Along with the tremor my elbow is being pulled toward my rib cage; adduction. I can push my elbow away; abduction no problem. But once I stop thinking about it my elbow moves back toward my ribs. I assume the tremor causes me to contract the muscles that move my elbow, not that the muscles are acting on their own. Just an observation, not a complaint.

When i try to meditate the tremor acts up. It also starts when exercising .Most of the day no problem. Usually not a problem after 11 at night. I'm up 2 or 3 times a night to urinate because i drink a lot of water since i need to stay hydrated.I sometimes have difficulty getting back to sleep but rarely have tremor issues. However within 30 min of C/l i sometimes get whole side tremors and sometimes just before a dose if I am under stress.I wonder if i am over medicated
