How do you stop uncontrolled tremors that suddenly come up during the night?

Dear friends, I am waking up at 3 AM and 4 AM every morning with uncontrolled tremors, they last anywhere from 20 minutes to one hour. Is this to be expected with parkinson's? I have had Parkinson's for 11 years, I am taking carbidopa/levodopa cr five times a day. Accompanying my tremors is of course much anxiety. Any suggestions on how to relieve this uncomfortable situation???

What is your sinemet schedule? Do you take any before you go to bed?

Every four hours and one just before going to bed

I guess I don't have an answer. I also take one before I go to bed at 10 p.m. and then during the night whenever I wake up, most of the time it's about 4. I take sinemet five times a day, about 9am 1 and 1/2 pill and about 12:30 pm , one an ahalf pill and then I just take one pill.

The only thing that I do for Tremor is say peace on inhalation and I say quiet hand on exhalation. someone on this list suggested it. It takes a little bit of practice to get it going. I have had it for almost eight years.

The cause of awakening may be related to the cause of the tremor. My gastroesophageal reflux.

Couple low tech helpers.

1/4 - 1/2 tsp. baking soda dissolved in water, as needed.

Ginger powder capsules, 1-2 ,before bed, every night. Really helped me.

Where do you buy it?

I'm sure that you have baking soda at the house , it's sodium bicarbonate. Ginger can be bought in any health food store or on eBay or Amazon. Or you could just buy it as a culinary spice and dissolve in water or put it in capsules. My Ginger capsules are marked as 750 mg .

Thank you Mary è sempre un piacere sentirti , ovviamente è come dici : il bicarbonato di sodio c’è l’ho in casa, il ginger lo comprerò su Amazon.

Grazie ancora.

Un caro saluto dall’Italia.

Did you feel motility during the night after taking ginger before bed?

No, I don't. After taking the capsule of Ginger if I already have slight acid reflux I might feel some burning otherwise nothing happens. It really surprised me, ginger is very healing for the stomach.

well james the best thing is a sleeping tablet or go to bed late maybe midnight people with parkie are prone to that it happens to most of us if you are real tired you will sleep well.regards john.

Just wondering whether they might improve with better reflux control

I take medical marijuana before bed. I take 1 ml THC/CBD OIL balanced and this seems to eliminate tremors for 10-12 hours. Helps with sleep too. I don't take it day time because I feel spaced.

I take a 25mg THC capsule at bedtime. Not finding outstanding results. Maybe my mg are not comparable to ml. What is the equivalent mg from ml?

ryzlot profile image

aprox 10 MG per ML so you are taking 2.5 Ml - does that sound right?

Yes. TY

James,

I have PD for 11 years and had a quite sudden (over 5 days) ofuncontrolled head and shoulder movement causing severe neck pain. I could not remain lying down in any position on the bed. I described it as a severe bout of dyskinesia. I had been on high dose Thiamine (.75g) for 2 years and had to come off this temporarily in the past when my pd symptoms suddenly changed. I took myself off this and other supplements but it made no difference.

I presented myself at my local Emergency department and was fortunate to be referred to my Neurologist who said it was likely to be Dystonia and prescribed medication called Rivotril (Clorazepam) 0.50mg which is primarily used to treat Epilepsy. The first night I took this I slept uninterrupted for about 8 hours but I was quite groggy or slightly dazed for most of that day..... I took half a tablet (0.25mg) last night without the tremor and feel well today.

Dyskinesia is considered to be caused by long term use of Levadopa. I know that Rivotril ifs highly addictive when used long term and do not like adding such a powerful drug to treat the side effect of another drug. There are also varied opinions on the use of Rivotril on this website. On the Mayo clinic website one doctor considered Melatonin to be a good alternative to Ricotril and there is much written on the benefits of Melatonin on this website..... follow member CHARTIST who writes well researched articles on this and orther subjects.

I hasten to add that no medication suits everybody and I wish you well in getting relief quickly from your pain and suffering which I considered to be the amongst the worst of symptoms in my experience. I consider HD Thiamine to be worth considering.

I have yet to explore fuly the Melatonin option.

Bill
