Dad's Tooth Extraction Went GREAT!!! :)

Hi Friends,

I asked in another post for your opinions on meds to accompany a tooth extraction in Daddy, who has had varying degrees of psychosis following his last surgery. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and input. He did wonderfully and the dentist and staff were extremely accommodating, after I explained his health issues on the phone and asking them to read the forms for doctors and nurses available through Parkinson.org after arriving. They even gave him a 1 hour break (their lunch break) and having us return to the office then. That was a refreshing break for all!

The hardest part was the x-rays due to his spatial orientation issues that come with Parkinson's, but we all helped him and managed fine. I believe this whole experience gave our father a new perspective on Stage 4 PD....A RENEWED "I CAN DO IT!" ATTITUDE!!!!!

ONE OF YOU RECOMMENDED SKIPPING ANTIBIOTICS IN LIU OF COLLOIDAL SILVER DROPS (which we bought) AND ....SOMETHING ELSE?... (WHICH WE COULDN'T FIND LAST MINUTE), SO WE BOUGHT OLIVE LEAF PILLS TO TAKE 3Xs DAILY UNTIL ALL RISK OF INFECTION IS GONE.

Question: Should we drop the silver directly into the socket where the tooth was before being pulled? How much? Anyone used Olive plant supplement for infection/infection prevention?

Since we do not know if it was the trauma of the surgery and entire hospital experience that caused the immediate onset of hallucinations and delusions following broken ankle surgery....OR the anesthesia, pain med, or antibiotics.... or a combination, we are trying to avoid use of any medications unless completely necessary. Hopefully his gums will heal beautifully, even where the tartar was dug out around and between each tooth.

ANOTHER ENCOURAGING NOTE IS THAT HIS PSYCHOSIS IS LIFTED FOR NOW AND WE ARE SO VERY GRATEFUL. His neuro took Dad off the final half of Pramipexole to see if that would do the trick, and with a few days passing to get out of his system, that indeed seems to have "done the trick for now"! :) WE STILL HAVE AN APPT THIS FRIDAY TO DISCUSS "Nuplazid", but likely will hold off if he prescribes it for now.

Merry Christmas and you are in my prayers and thoughts today and always!

Did the dentist mention the idea of using a black tea bag on the socket to help it heal? This is what dentists I know have recommended. This might be a little difficult to apply.

It is very important to prevent a situation called dry socket.

"What happens after a tooth extraction?

When the procedure is complete, your dentist will place a piece of gauze over the extraction site and ask you to close down with firm, steady pressure. This helps slow bleeding so a blood clot can form. (Clotting is a normal aspect of recovery. It promotes healing and reduces the risk of dry sockets.) You’ll take the gauze out once the bleeding has slowed enough. You may continue to have light bleeding throughout the first 24 hours."

It is important NOT to use a straw to drink after an extraction
