While eating Thanksgiving dinner my jaw closed in a spasm and hard enough that I heard a loud crack. No pain, I couldn't find a fragment of tooth but a crown is gone leaving a sharp spicule of enamel that my tongue won't stop rubbing. Again, no pain so I'm in no hurry to run to the dentist. A friend at Hartford Health has Parkinson's and says his arm shoots out uncontrollably striking his wife. He says it happens periodically and he's moved to a different bedroom. Neurologically, is this a similar event? How to I prevent it happening again? Ask the dentist about a mouth guard? Try MJ edibles?
TIA,
kevin

I had that happen to me a couple of weeks ago. Dentist filed the tooth. The next week He prepared my tooth for a crown. I wasn’t expecting that to be such a project. Lots of drilling and smoothing out the damaged tooth. He rebuilt the area where the tooth broke off and put on a temporary crown. I had the same thing happen several years ago to the same tooth.Mine wasn’t related to an issue with my jaw but rather 1st time eating something hard, 2nd time I think was a combination of the electric tooth brush and eating a grilled cheese sandwich. Anyhow make sure you get that fixed before you have to get a root canal. I’m hoping that I won’t need one. My bill was $1042.00. Good luck. I’ll be interested in hearing how you make out. A mouth guard may be helpful. I’m going to ask my dentist about that.
Thanks for the note. I was eating Salmon, nothing hard, no bones. I understand dyskinesia can happen here? I take Rytary and dry mouth is not a side effect.
I'm taking a guess that the arm shooting out could possibly be dyskinesia? It can cause very clumsy and unexpected movements.
I also clench my jaw, overnight mostly, and when stressed and when off meds. I wear a dental shield for sleep, but my best help has been from a sacro cranial osteopath, greatly reducing my teeth grinding, and migraines.
Kay, rush to the dentist. Oral hygiene is of utmost importance to PD. Avoid root canals.
On a non-related issue: I have been treating my hubby's lower left leg ulcer with aloe vera after vinegar and water 20-min soaks DAILY for the last 14 months. Since it's a naturopathic approach (wound care doctors FAILED BIG to heal it and caused him pseudomonas infection and eventual hospitalization), he is not authorized home health care for his wound. I have been reading about DMSO topical application for ulcer wounds. I would like to try it, what kind and how should I use it? I remember you wrote that you used it on horses? What is your opinion? Thank you!
HonestO3 makes ozonated oil. I used these on patients. They work well on animal or human skin conditions. Because of prostate disease I've used it on myself.
Thanks. Guess it is worth using it on a lot of conditions according to this Midwestern doctor. I just don't know what product and how to use it. There are sprays which I found on line.
Traditionally ozone generators produce ozone gas. (Duh) higher levels of gas can sterilize surgical tools. Lower levels of gas can be infused into the blood via a catheter. In the blood ozone can kill infections bacterial, viral or toxic. So there are generators that produce small amounts of ozone and are termed 'medical' generators. Dr Shallenberger writes about these generators and how to use them to treat disease. Ozone is O3, three oxygen molecules loosely connected. One can be donated to the body improving the ability of the body to heal itself. Google Shallenberger and ozone and you'll see it explained. Dr Bocci also wrote about the miracle of ozone. Google him too.
I used DMSO often to treat disease in dogs, cats and horses. DMSO is a solvent. Experts say it can treat the body exactly as steroids can help the body. But nothing is 100% Too much DMSO acts like too much steroid; Cushings Disease is caused by too much steroid in the blood.
Thanks, Kay! Hubby had ozone therapy for a while until he had that horrible fall while walking (not due to loss of balance). We had to drive about 45-60 min because he was feeling so great after each session. Dr. Shallenberger was the reason hubby started the ozone therapy. Maybe he should start it again for his left leg ulcer.
Isn’t dmso also used as a solvent to allow another chemical to absorb through the skin? So maybe be careful it’s not transporting anything off the skin into the blood?
Yes, I know and that is why I am hesitant to use it without instructions from someone knowledgeable on DMSO. I printed some good literature and will take it to our dermatologist for instructions. He is out of the box kind of doctor and hopefully, he will help us. I posted above a good link from "A Midwestern Doctor from The Forgotten Side of Medicine."
I used DMSO to treat lower limb disease in horses. Things like tendinopathy. Initially DMSO salve can treat inflamed tendons. But ultimately the horse develops sensitivity and starts stomping his feet and rearing up when he smells it. A horse reared when I was holding the lead rope. The thousand-pound animal's foot slammed back down one inch from my hand. If he'd connected that would have ended my surgical career.
