Anyone on here involved with the trial of Urso, a liver drug that showed so promise to treatment of PD
Drug: ursodeoxycholic acid
Subjects will be provided ~50mg/kg/day (based on the use of 250 and 500mg capsules) of UDCA to be divided into 3 equal daily doses and titrated up over ~2 weeks to a stable dose for 4 weeks.
Other Name: Ursodiol
Another repurposes drug that should cut through a lot of trial red tape if proves effective.
TUDCA and UDCA are similar compounds
In SH-SY5Y cells, TUDCA prevents MPP+-induced cell death and mitochondrial damage. Moreover, this bile acid was also shown to modulate parkin phosphorylation, and parkin expression levels in the presence of MPP+. Importantly, modulation of parkin was accompanied by increased levels of autophagy. Impaired mitochondrial turnover has been associated to PD, thus, mitochondrial protective agents represent an attractive direction for the development of new therapeutic drugs. Our results point to the pharmacological up-regulation of mitochondrial turnover by TUDCA as a novel neuroprotective mechanism of this molecule, and contribute to the validation of TUDCA clinical application in PD.

Most of the writing on this suggests that more research is needed and as with almost everything there can be side effects.

Yes it seem like every week there's a new a new chrome bullet, and to the untrained eye may look like a silver bullet. But is just a look a like The horrible conclusion is that it will take so long to see these therapies make it to the mainspring it will be to late for many of us and our loved ones....
tudca is similar and hubby has been taking restore gold which has tudca in it for a few years now.
And, anything to add or comment or report inasmuch as you can?
Well as always there are so many variables so it is hard to know what is helping and what isn’t.
Restore gold also has green tea, NAC, ALA, grape seed extract, L-tyrosine, acetyl-l- carnitine in it so he started them all at the same time.
He has just gone 5 years and is still on the 50/12.5 madopar so his meds are not high.
He has taken the Hardys den for the same amount of time from late 2018 but also made diet changes back then getting rid of sugar, gluten, additives, seed oils and eating more plant based whole foods. Also started walking every day which previously he didn’t exercise much.
We noticed he had a 20kg weight loss over 6 months then leveled off to a healthy weight which has stayed the same. He has had good and bad periods mentally and anxiety with stressful incidence is a problem still.
His rosacea and acne, PD odour, have gone. Sense of smell has improved. His dexterity in his hands has deteriorated. His clinical depression has gone and he went off the antidepressants. His face is usually more animated now except when he is stressed. His PD lack of arm swing continues.
It’s too hard to know how he would have been without the supplements and regime change. If only he had a clone so we could have done a proper comparison🙂
We have had a particularly stressful few months with a bathroom flood, dealing with insurance, endless tradesmen and ripping out almost new bathroom and he has deteriorated with the anxiety . I have had to increase his clonazapam from 1x0.5 mg tablet per day cut into quarters to 1.25 x 0.5 mg which made quite a difference. I feel clonazapam is the one drug that makes a difference to his symptoms by calming his anxiety.

I was not on the placebo
Did you get an improvement in symptoms?
I think so but it was early days in my Parkinson's and it's difficult to tell. My Parkinson's is still not too bad.
