Questions about feet and PD

Hey there, I am 1.5 years into PD and no medication, by choice and a complex situation. I have started to have stiffness and quite a bit of pain in my feet. Lower bottom of ankle and top of ankle higher up on foot. It causes me to walk in a shuffle manner for a few steps until I loosen up. Also weakness in legs getting out of chair. Are these PD pains or just getting older?

Painful feet - sounds like dystonia.

I have pain in one foot and it can be pretty nasty. I think a lot of PD patients develop peripheral neuropathy and often in the feet. Exercise does help although it’s difficult if the pain is bad. Levodopa also treats mine quite well as conventional pain killers don’t really work.

Worth taking B complex vitamins because they can be critical, especially B12 and B6 (p5p). Be careful with B6 though as too much can be harmful and there is much more on about this on this forum. Just use the search box.

If you experience neuropathic pain in your feet and legs (or even in your hands and arms), be extra vigilant about an imbalance in your B6 levels, especially if you have PD. It could be due to a rather common deficiency, but also an overdose of B6 supplementation, such as in your B-complex. Only a test can provide clarity. Just do it!

I had a lot of pain in both feet before I was diagnosed with PD. I had arthritis that I thought was the problem and at times could hardly walk. I was told I needed surgery. Once I went to my neurologist, he told me I had dystonia and I get botox in feet, calves and neck. My foot pain is completely gone!

Thank you. I guess I don't understand dystonia. I thought it was involuntary movements or muscle cramps . I have stiffness and pain. Also it is getting worse in hip area.

Stretching out helps me. If bad a hot bath may help.

Well today I experienced dystonia pretty clearly. I have had stiffness in between my fingers for a while. Today my index finger just went straight and actually bent backwards a little. I could not straighten it out for a while. Pinky and ring finger did it also. Learning as I go. Thanks for everyone’s responses.

I am almost 5 years into my journey. No pain issues but I do feel like my right leg sometimes feels weak as well as my ankle when I walk on occasion. I stretch when I can and do yoga semi-regularly. I have a lot of knee pain but that is due to bone spurs and a torn meniscus in my left knee. I am getting ready to start training again to do another century ride, possibly this spring. Body permitting. I started meds about a year into my diagnosis. The tremors got to bad in my right hand. Much like you I went to 2 Drs before I accepted my diagnosis.
