Are they meant to be taken together or can they be taken at separate times?

Either. Pramipexole is not critical, because it is not affected by food whereas sinemet is best taken at least 1 hour from eating food

I have been taking Mirapex and Sinemet together along with my other night time meds for years without any problems.
