I am thinking of adding Lions Mane to my ever increasing list of supplements. Can anyone advise if they have had any benefit in taking it. Also recommendations for a good brand and dosage. I am based in the UK. Many thanks

Hi 072011, Yes Lion's mane is good for you, but so many vendors include the non-nutritional portion of the lions mane mushroom as they reduce it to a powder, thus greatly weakening it's potency I know this because our CEO.. recently returned abatch of Lionsne.

ecause it was diluted with the fiber the mushroom grows on.. collected his money .. and sought a new supplier. I get my lion's mane in combination with Acemannan special yam, a salt with 84 minerals and etc. The Acemannan works synergistically with all of the ingredients, enhancing the benefits of each by x20 or morel. additionally as the product is being mixed it is being frequency activated.

I copied this from their website,.....

Lion's mane mushroom is a nootropic (cognition-boosting) food very popular in traditional Chinese medicine.

A large body of research has focused on this impressive mushroom in the last few years, and the results are nothing short of astounding.

One study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry lists the benefits by stating lion’s mane mushroom is “antibiotic, anticarcinogenic, antidiabetic, anti-fatigue, antihypertensive, anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-senescence [anti-aging], cardioprotective, hepatoprotective, nephroprotective, and neuroprotective, and improves anxiety, cognitive functi on, and depression.”

That’s an impressive list! However, Lions Mane is a food, not a medicine and we make none of these claims. You need determine if it works for you. Even so, whether you are just curious what this odd-looking fungus might be good for, we are sure you’re going to be impressed. Wouldn’t it be exciting if it can regenerate damaged cells and assist with accurate gene expression throughout the body?

Good morning. I use the following on a daily basis (not cheap, but top quality). No directly attributable benefits, but it is part of my routine.

There was a post a few months ago where there was a discussion of Lions Mane. Both my husband and I have taken it and found we had more energy on 1000mgs supplement. We don’t take it on a regular basis as we found we had trouble sleeping well when taking it. We grew them as well!

I believe you’ve to take extract from both mushrooms and mycelium to reap full benefits of anti inflammatory and neurogenic benefits. I deduced after reading the animal study paper. The neuro genesis element is extracted from mycelium and anti inflammatory from the mushrooms. I bought Stamets liquid dual extract version though haven’t started it yet since I’m working on finding my B1 sweet spot first. Here is the website I used to come to my conclusion. naturesrise.com/blogs/brain...

“For example, research suggests that the fruiting body has higher levels of certain compounds, such as beta-glucans, associated with immune support. On the other hand, mycelium contains specific compounds, like erinacines, that are not abundant in the fruiting body and are linked to cognitive health benefits.”

I will continue to research but think I will follow your lead. I too am having trouble finding my B1 sweetspot. It is too easy to read about something new and rush headlong into buying it in the hope of some extra benefit.

Good luck with it. The studies do look good for Lions mane. It’s able to do something (create new neurons) that other supplements can’t do. So very promising from that aspect but you have to ingest right elements to reap the benefits.

So mycelium for neurodegenerative diseases and fruiting body for immune support?

But the paper I mentioned above says beta-glucan from oats increased intestinal mucosa.

It is known that gut bacteria consume the mucosa which releases SCFA, which feeds the intestinal cells and nourishes the brain as well via the gut-brain axis.

I’m not sure if supporting healthy gut equates to neurogenesis? This is the extract from paper I saw. “A previous double-blinded clinical study has shown that oral administration of H. erinaceus fruiting body was effective in improving mild cognitive impairment in 50- to 80-year-old Japanese patients [16]. However, when examining the constituents of this effect, hericenones failed to stimulate NGF gene expression in primary cultured rat astroglial cells and 1321N1 human astrocytoma cells [17], suggesting that hericenones were not the key components responsible for the neuroprotective activities of this mushroom. On the other hand, the prominent beneficial effect of erinacine A was confirmed in the central nervous system in rats [18]. It is essential to know the concentrations of the bioactive compounds present in the functional ingredients to better assess their effects on the quality and bioactivity.” Here is the link to the paper ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

I use this one. One scoop in my tea every morning. Tasteless. amazon.com/gp/product/B077H...

An extract made from whole grown and hand picked Lion’s Mane mushroom fruiting bodies. Analytically tested and scientifically verified to contain 31% beta-d glucans, which are the beneficial compounds you’re looking for. We use WHOLE MUSHROOM FRUITING BODIES with no filler, mycelium, extra starch or grains.

This reply made me curious about the difference between beta-glucan in oats vs. mushroom. Found a paper with interesting results, posted it here:

Well, this paper is quite fascinating Jay, Thanks for posting

The correlation analysis highlights that degree of cognitive behavior improved by β-glucan supplementations was significantly associated with microglia status in the hippocampus and PFC and the number of colonic M2 macrophages. In addition, only β-glucan from oat bran altered gut microbiota and enhanced intestinal mucus.

It helps me a lot with reduced brain fog/increased cognition. I alternate between three filler-free UK suppliers: British Supplements, 5greens but currently favour Mother Nature which I find the easiest of the three to get (free postage, no tax) from Ebay: ebay.co.uk/itm/125575995865. Good luck!

or are you just walking normally?

I walk normally when I am in my "on" time but very much slower in "off time". I go faster when

energy permits, and at 76yrs the osteoporosis is affecting my joints and hurts if I overdo

things.
