Pycnogenol® supplementation alleviates symptoms of Parkinson's disease with mild cognitive impairment

Recent article 2022. Not sure if it was posted. I was going to take it to lower my BP which has started to creep up. I worried because I had read Their pharmacodynamic action primarily consists of antioxidant properties and possible anti-inflammatory effects. Pycnogenol may also influence the release of catecholamines (including dopamine and norepinephrine) and nitric oxide synthesis. Whenever dopamine is mentioned I am cautious for my HWP.

My BP is good. I also drink hibiscus tea. As for my HWP it helps w venous insufficiency in legs. Cognition seems ok, when he has a bad night due to back/leg pain unrelated to PD it really throws him off. Have to stop most supplements bc he is having surgery, will not be allowed to take any natural nsaid acting supplement for 3 months bc bone healing so I will add back other supplements slowly to see what seems to help best.

Good Morning,

French Maritime Bark (Pycnogenol)and Gotu Kola (Centella Asiatica) is well documented in studies to show proven benefits in patients with atherosclerosis.

minervamedica.it/en/journal...

This is the main reason that I take them together and I also administer the same dosage to my mother.

If one can assist the endothelial cells, then that goes a long way to benefiting the cardiovascular system and of course the brain region more efficiently.

Let me explain more:

The endothelium is a single layer of cells that line your blood vessels and help them contract and relax.

The endothelium, a monolayer of endothelial cells, constitutes the inner cellular lining of the blood vessels (arteries, veins and capillaries) and the lymphatic system, and therefore is in direct contact with the blood/lymph and the circulating cells.

The endothelium is a major player in the control of blood fluidity, platelet aggregation and vascular tone, a major actor in the regulation of immunology, and inflammation.

Endothelial cells controls vascular tone, and thereby blood flow, by synthesizing and releasing relaxing and contracting factors such as nitric oxide, metabolites of arachidonic acid via the cyclooxygenases, lipoxygenases and cytochrome pathways, various peptides (endothelin, urotensin, CNP, adrenomedullin, etc.), adenosine, purines, reactive oxygen species and so on.

An endothelial dysfunction linked to an imbalance in the synthesis may explain the initiation of cardiovascular diseases (from hypertension to atherosclerosis). So when the arteries become stiff with plaque build up they can not function correctly, and the consequences are self explanatory; hypertension, lack of oxygen blood supply to the organs, brain, etc.

Moreover, there are studies showing the effect in neurological inflammation, which you have mentioned, with minimal side effects.
