Coronet Duo IR Helmet anyone?

reedboat2 profile image
30 Replies

I bought the infrared helmet from Tasmania about three years ago. I paid $700 US which was the price at that time. I’ve tried it maybe a dozen times, but it doesn’t work for me. The helmet seems to work fine, I just get weird symptoms from it.

It seems a shame for this IR helmet to be sitting in a drawer if someone could use it. Anyone interested please DM me with an offer. Just make sure it’s what you want, because whatever transaction we make will be final. Thanks- JG

What "weird symptoms" does the helmet cause?

reedboat2 profile image
reedboat2 in reply tokaypeeoh

Vivid dreaming and peripheral neuropathy. But I’ve never heard about either of those from other Coronet users. So maybe it’s just me.

Might it be a good idea to get in touch with Catherine Hamilton at “ red lights on the brain” and tell her your experience, she may have some advice to offer,or at least be glad of your input.

What was your regiment when you used the helmet? Time of day, How many times/day, Did you use daily, weekly. How long did you constantly try your regiment? I've recently, received my Duo Coronet and Coronase. I've noticed I get a little nauseous during the 670nm portion of the 1st treatment in the morning. The 2nd treatment (before supper), I have no issues. When I 1st started it (12 sessions ago) I felt nauseous every session. Its only been the last couple of days where the nausea has disappeared in the afternoon.

I only used it a few times. The effects were so strong I didn’t pursue it. Nausea, however, was not an issue. Thanks for your feedback- JG

My husband has been using the CoroNase for a few weeks twice a day. His sense of taste and smell have returned after many years. I’m not sure about other symptoms. He was in hospital with a broken wrist, where they pumped him full of strong pain killers, which caused massive constipation . He came home in a sorry state, both mentally and physically. Is it the Coranase that has improved him so much since then, I don’t know, but I certainly believe it’s given him back his sense of taste. That is so good. He’s had no adverse effects from the coronet. I will pick do a post on it when I’m more sure of other improvements.

very sorry to hear it didn't work for you -- but don't give up hope... i used multiple devices, therapies at home and so far they are keeping my PD 'in check' without meds... best of luck you

keto is highly recommended but too much sacrifice for me... today is day #327 of my O.M.A.D. (one meal a day with all calories eaten within a 2 hours window = 22 hours of fasting every day). I've lost about 60 pounds and i still eat (in moderation) pizza, potatoes, fruit... around 1,500 calories max per day. "Fasting" is highly recommended for healing the gut which many researchers say is the 'source' of PD

Have you tried a low dose? Instead of the helmet being on your head, put the helmet on an open shelf above your head. Increase or decrease the helmet's distance until you barely feel the side effects. I suspect, the longer you use the helmet in this way, you will be able to gradually decrease the Helmet's distance from your head. Its possible your side effects are part of detoxing your system.

Other Ideas for getting the helmet to hover over your head:

Using a string tied from the helmet to a shower curtain rod, ceiling light, window curtain rod, or light stand.

good ideas. I had thought about reducing duration but hadn’t considered distancing. Thanks I will look into that - JG

Ron here from Well Red. I was told about this discussion and so decided to join HI to be able to contribute where there is confusion or wrong information about our products.

If the user of the Coronet finds that they are particularly sensitive to the level of light, they can reduce it to half power by pressing and holding the small push button at the top of the 'R' leg for at least 5 seconds.

Repeating this operation will toggle the power back to the original level if desired.

This setting will be remembered from session to session.

Thanks Ron,

In my pursuit to figure out what the button was for, I have pressed it a few times, thinking it only functioned as a power button. The gradual build from low (30% and 25% duty cycle) to high(60 and 50% duty cycle) power was throwing me. I was expecting an immediate change.

I was turning off the helmet quite often trying the implement the 5 second feature, so I used the Well Red Companion to confirm that I was implementing the 5 second feature correctly, which was reflected in the duty cycle changes within the app.

I want to add my voice to nabulldog's suggestion that the dosing is the issue. I have had lots of people consult with me on their use of PBM for neurological issues and the most often side effects are from overstimulation.

reedboat2 profile image
reedboat2 in reply tomhberman

The fact that there were such strong reactions does indicate that something was happening. So dosage reduction seems in order. Thanks for your comment - JG

Skull thickness varies widely from person to person. Perhaps your skill is more easily permiable so a short duration would be better? Maybe start it 1/2 way through first cycle and end 1/2 way through second cycle?

I think the science is solid so it would be ashamed to miss out on it.

FYI for those interested in this device

Duo Coronet / CoroNase Transcranial Helmet Review

Ver 7 Duo Coronet / CoroaNase Review Purchased Feb. 2023

I purchased the helmet for my various headaches. Prior to my purchase I experimented with a hand held 810nm panel. This proved to be effective for my headaches but, the process was tedious.

I had to hold the panel on my head at various locations, sometimes up to 60 min, especially when I couldn't figure out where the headache was stemming from.

The helmet has proven to be more effective and convenient than the 810nm panel.

I also have the CoroNase, which has been instrumental in reducing the severity of my sinus headaches. It doesn't take them away, but reduces the pain level. Most of the time a 2nd session a few hours later will eliminate the remaining headache.

CoroNase: Not Staying In:

I found the easiest way to get it in the nose is to Wet Willy the rubber before inserting, otherwise its a little rough getting in.

The cable is around 12" long, It needs to be closer to 15-16in. I say this because the cable pulls to the right side thus pulling out the CoroNase.

I added an extension, which allows me to run the cable up the center back and down the front of the helmet. This allows for centered, gentle up pull on the cable thus naturally keeping the CoroNase in the nose.

amazon.com/Seadream-3-Pole-...

Duo Coronet:

System provides quoted website specs, pulsing at 40Hz during the 670nm and 810nm 12 minute sessions.

The physical design caters to the user allowing a personnel helmet fit. The helmet can fit as loose or tight as you desire.

The electronic design appears to be geared toward the highest irradiant output of the 670 and 810nm LEDs.

Using the aluminum frame as a heat sink for the diodes is innovative. If you touch the frame during a session you will notice its hot (810nm session) while your head is comfortably warm.

Momentary Button

In my pursuit to figure out what the button was for, I have pressed it a few times, thinking it only functioned as a power button. The gradual built from low (30% and 25% duty cycle) to high(60 and 50% duty cycle) power was throwing me. I was expecting an immediate change.

I was turning off the helmet quite often trying the implement the 5 second feature, so I used the Well Red Companion to confirm that I was implementing the 5 second feature correctly, which was reflected in the duty cycle changes within the app.

Well Red Companion phone app:

I have V33, downloaded from the google play store.

The last update for the app appears to have been in 2020.

The app is installed on my Samsung S22 Android Phone.

Observations regarding the app:

On the Google play store page there is a page screen shot which indicates to me that you can select, DEEP Red, Near Infra-red or both. Adjustments on the same page screen shot indicates you can adjust, Run time, Duty cycle, and Session Length. My phone application does not show that screen. The application however has a “Reset to Factory Settings” which indicates to me that I should be able to make some setting changes.

The instructions sent after my purchase indicates the Cog Wheel options would allow me to switch between Duo and Mono modes. My phone app does not have any such option. The only options on the Cog Wheel page are: Therapist Zone, Send Diagnostic Report, and Return.

Under the Tools page; Reaction Test only shows a blank red screen. Tremor test works fine.

V33 is the only version of the Well Red Companion I could find on the Google play store. Is there a newer version? If so, where can I get it?

Under the “i” tab you will find time remaining in the 670 or 810nm sessions. You can pause a session and start back where you left off. It also has information on the system settings and helmet temperature.

Irradiant Strength

Through various forums, the Duo Coronet was not being used because the irradiation was too strong for the individuals in question.

1st Suggestion:

Hover (string tied from helmet to shower curtain rod, ceiling light ect.) the helmet above your head at a distance where you barely feel the negative effects. Over time, gradually, reduce the distance until you are able to wear the helmet as designed.

My impression is that Length of Time is more effective than strength of the light. In other words, 24 min exposure at 35mw/cm^2 is more effective than 12 min exposure at 70mw/cm^2.

2nd Suggestion:

Reduce your session time. Using the Well Red Companion; Start the session, let the time run down to your desired session time.

Example: Let the helmet run down to 6min remaining on the 670nm session, put the helmet on until you reach 6min remaining in the 810nm session then remove the helmet

Adjustable session time would be a nice feature to add to the Well Red Companion App.

Ron - any update regarding I-phone app for the coronet?

Elect-Ron profile image
Elect-Ron in reply toShorebirdsotherhalf

After we spent many hundreds of dollars developing the iOS app, it was submitted a while ago to the Apple store for publication, but Apple then demanded medical authority approval certificates from every country where the app could be downloaded.

As we considered this gross overreach of their authority over our products, we decided that we had no option but to withdraw it.

These demands appear to be in line with Apple's efforts to exercise tight control over their hardware, software and 3rd party apps.

Google has not made any such demands of us.
