Has anyone here looked into nitric oxide? (See several articles linked below) Should we not be eating beetroot powder (increases nitric oxide) or taking nitric oxide supplements (argentine and citrulline)? :
"Both studies in humans and in experimental models of parkinsonism give support to the contribution of NO in excitotoxicity, inflammation, oxidative stress, mitochondrial function impairment, DNA damage, and Snitrosylation of diverse proteins. The interaction of these mechanisms leads finally to neuronal death."
In the book "The Ultimate Guide To Methylene Blue", the author dedicated an entire chapter to discuss the negatives of excessive NO - see amazon.com/Ultimate-Guide-M...
I'm not disputing the above research, but I've been told my my cardiologist that NO is a highly desired molecule for maintaining and repairing endothelial (lining of arteries) walls, thus potentially restoring unrestricted blood flow in occluded arteries.
It is possible (but difficult) to slow/reverse heat disease -
I would think improved blood flow in the brain can only help with PD.
These cited studies seem to blame NO for accelerated oxidative stress in the neuronal cells - I wonder if various antioxidants might tame some of the possible damage done by NO...
As important as our brains are, there are other mandatory systems to maintain too - cardiovascular being a pet concern of mine. How to prioritize NO given these conflicting impacts to CVD and PD.
