Increase nitric oxide to increase blood flow to the brain and reduce depression but is it bad for PD?

This is new to me. Interesting!

Beets are an excellent source. Thoughts and recommendations?

This is not proof of anything, but Google Nitric Oxide and Parkinson's and this is the type of thing you find:

Parkinson's Disease Iron Deposition Caused by Nitric Oxide-Induced Loss of β-Amyloid Precursor Protein 2015

"Elevation of both neuronal iron and nitric oxide (NO) in the substantia nigra are associated with Parkinson's disease (PD) pathogenesis. We reported previously that the Alzheimer-associated β-amyloid precursor protein (APP) facilitates neuronal iron export. Here we report markedly decreased APP expression in dopaminergic neurons of human PD nigra and that APP−/− mice develop iron-dependent nigral cell loss. Conversely, APP-overexpressing mice are protected in the MPTP PD model. NO suppresses APP translation in mouse MPTP models, explaining how elevated NO causes iron-dependent neurodegeneration in PD."

Physiological amounts of NO are neuroprotective, owing to S-nitrosylation of NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptor subunits or of the active sites of caspases. Furthermore, NO activates Akt and CREB (cyclic AMP-responsive-element-binding protein), which are involved in two important survival pathways. NO also induces haem oxygenase 1, a key enzyme in the cellular stress response.

If it is produced in excess, or if a cell is under conditions of oxidative stress, NO becomes noxious and may undergo an oxidative–reductive reaction to form toxic compounds known as reactive nitrogen species (RNS), which cause cell damage. Both NO and RNS have a pathogenetic role in the onset and development of neurodegenerative disorders.

Stay away from beets and excess Vit C supplementation I guess

Did you know that humming increases nitric oxide?erj.ersjournals.com/content....

in reply toDap1948

Interesting. Humming stimulates the vagus nerve, related? And mouth breathing decreases NO

Yoga has so many answers! There is a humming breathing technique too.

Nitric oxide (NO) is an enzymatic product of nitric oxide synthase (NOS). NO has significant physiological functions and an increasing body of evidence suggests that NO pathways are implicated in a number of neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other neurodegenerative dementias.

Everything depends on whether NOS is coupled or uncoupled .
