I got confused about how much broccoli sprouts I was eating and why. I was eating over 2 cups, which is over 120 grams, every day. There was no good reason I was eating 2 cups. I just got confused.
On the one hand, I am feeling pretty good and some of my symptoms (I have not been diagnosed with PD, I have RBD and a sore left shoulder and left leg and random movements and getting dizzy when I stand and face dandruff. The random movements are about gone, the RBD is rare, the face dandruff is mild, the dizzy when I stand is gone, and I have gone back to being left handed after having to use a mouse right handed for a year due to my sore left shoulder), but based on my previous research I should have been eating 1 cup per day, 60 grams.
Going to one cup will really help as it is hard to keep up sprouting for 2 cups per day for 2 people!
So this is where I got the 60 grams per day dosage from. I have actually written about it before: healthunlocked.com/cure-par...
Here is a study from 2018: Effects of long-term consumption of broccoli sprouts on inflammatory markers in overweight subjects sci-hub.se/10.1016/j.clnu.2...
Researchers gave participants fresh, raw broccoli sprouts weekly (seven trays of sprouts, 30 g each) for 10 weeks; sprouts were consumed daily as part of a normal diet. Participants were asked to avoid cooking the sprouts. After the intervention, participants were followed for 90 days and asked not to consume broccoli sprouts during that time. "The sprouts were biostimulated with methyl jasmonate 250 mM, for 4 days previous to delivery, in order to increase up to 2-fold levels the production of bioactive compounds", so I guess I need 60 grams of untreated sprouts.
They experienced a 38% reduction in interleukin-6 and a 59% reduction in C-reactive protein, two biomarkers associated with inflammation. This part is really cool: They stopped the broccoli sprouts at 70 days. The IL-6 continued to drop until day 90, and was still 50% lower than baseline at day 160.
Is 60 grams of broccoli sprouts the proper dose to address Parkinson's? I don't know. But it is having a marked physiological effect on inflammation, and other treatments like PEA and Niacin are based on addressing inflammation. Plus we get the Nrf2 stuff too.
I'm going to switch to one cup every morning. If I start getting worse I might go back to 2 cups, but hopefully not. One cup is a lot easier. And I will still have it with a meatball
This is my measure of 61 grams (One Cup):
