Melatonin also works as a preventative and treatment for stroke :

In terms of a treatment option, the critical point for such remedies is rapid application as soon as possible after a stroke or heart attack, which melatonin is also useful for. Another consideration for melatonin is that it also has anti atherosclerotic activities. Atherosclerosis is one of the main causes for a stroke or heart attack.
