Nordic Walking to increase speed and arm swing
Watching the video I have to wonder if this walking would be possible for people with balance issues, a tendency to lean forward, and difficulty with initiating movement
The practice of Nordic Walking does not lead to clinically significant changes in global motor impairment, functional mobility, balance and physical fitness in patients with PD. This therapy seems to improve walking ability and quality of life, although further research in this latter outcome is needed.May 20, 2022
Effects of Nordic walking in people with Parkinson's disease
just bought a tread mill best thing ive done i can vary from walking to jogging and also bought a toe straightener due to curling toes which has also helped with this process there can be a tendency to lean forward but you can overcome this gradually
Thanks for your post! I have a set of Activator poles (urbanpoling.com/activator-p... which are similar to the poles in the video, but they don't have wrist straps as a safety measure. They are very well made and I really enjoy them. When I was doing my BIG therapy with a physical therapist walking poles improved my posture and I could walk at a normal speed without too much back pain (I have back issues unrelated to PD). The PT was amazed and I left so excited to research walking poles. I especially enjoy them because I can actually keep up with others who I may be walking with!
