Increasing Dopamine receptor density?

Found randomly on the net :

"There is a very powerful way to upregulate your dopamine receptor density, among other things, and it involves abstaining from sexual behaviours of any kind. Particularly self-pleasure and pornography watching.

Fasting is another way. Any prolonged reduction of dopamine release will cause receptor upregulation and thus higher sensitivity to dopamine.

This is an incredibly effective way to boost motivation, sensitivity to life, and general alertness."

Any comment ?

Hi Xeno, I can agree on fasting, the other aspect I find curious and difficult to believe. What is the source?

It was on a Question/Answer site named "Quora".

Not very serious usually.

With all due respect it sounds like BS to me. Besides, where’s the fun in all of that.🤔🙂

I agree with you and this goes a lot deeper than the obvious. What we know as human sexual pleasure is merely divine Chi concentrating at the first and second chakras. When the Chi concentrates at the heart chakra it feels like divine love. I abide in this divine bliss for hours daily and my Parkinson's has been stable ever since I started this practice four years ago.

There are a lot of people on the interwebs who tout 'dopamine fasts' for self-improvement. The list of off-limit activities extends to use of social media, listening to music, reading, even vigorous exercise. They often cite neuroscientist Andrew Huberman - I have not looked into it in any detail to see if Huberman himself actually espouses these ideas or, further, if the research literature supports these claims. I do know Huberman once said in a presentation that young males should avoid ejaculation since this will increase their aggression level ... when I watch the evening news that's what I think - gee whiz if there were only a way to get young men to be more aggressive the world would be better off ... /sarcasm

Just did a quick search on Huberman and dopamine and there are some videos on YT I don't have time to review, but this segment on melatonin reducing dopamine production jumped out at me:youtu.be/QmOF0crdyRU?t=7520

I don't know anything about dopamine receptor density, but I think we can all agree that we should practice abstinence the night before we participate in a prize fight or professional football game.

This goes for anything that's addictive. Porn, gambling, drugs, therapeutic shopping, compulsive eating, pretty much anything you can think of . All of these things light up the same areas of the brain and desensitize said dopamine receptors. Abstinence will help, but be aware that it will take a long time and the amount of damage that can be undone is inversely proportional to the time and severity of the addiction. The pathways are well worn like a road travelled, which explains why it's so easy to fall off the wagon and relapse.

Addiction is defined as a disorder characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli despite adverse consequences. The key here is the adverse consequences bit.
