Update B1 (HDT & TTFD) – 10/19/22

First, I should state, I am not as patient as is required by Dap1948 's HDT protocol.

5 months after first starting TTFD, I finally gave up on TTFD because I seemed to be in a never-ending cycle of return of symptoms at yet another lower dose. During that period, I did try sublingual, but I found letting a tab dissolve a hassle and it appeared I was going to need more than one. 13days ago, I started B1 HCL at 1000mg a day.

Yesterday, I was at 1400mg HCL a day. I was seeing some improvement, but not the reduction of tremor and boost in energy that I saw with TTFD. I am not constipated yet (size of BM is less and I am taking fiber today) and last night I got less sleep, so I decided to give 1300mg a few weeks try.

1) I believe someone should do a clinical trial on the benefits of B1 as in 25mg TTFD for 7 days. I feel the results would put an end to the question of whether HDT is beneficial, a pill would be much less costly than injections and 7 days should show results—I felt results the first day. Personally, I feel anything higher than 25mg will have dropouts due to complications of return of symptoms. It has already been proven safe, so no phase 1 required.

2) I do not endorse TTFD.

3) My thought is; it is ridiculous that the smallest dose that can be purchased outside of Japan is 50mg. In Japan prescription drug Alinamin-F is available in 5mg, 25mg and 50mg tablets. (Tablets can easily be cut on half too). The only source I can find requires a wire transfer. mimaki-family-japan.com/ite...

4) I have no confidence that I can accurately divide a 50mg cap into something less than 20mg. (The contents of a cap varied by more than 14% by weight, and the caps are blended at approximately 4:1 with something other than TTFD to produce a near full cap by volume.) Ok, granted 4:1 blend means a fourth of 14%, but how accurate is my 4:1 blend measurement?

Allow 4 months to receive full benefit from high-dose thiamine therapy

We've been attempting Dr Costantini's thiamin protocol. It's taken a long time but my husband is at 3000mg now and seeing benefits like increased motivation. It's taken about 2 years.

I can't say I was patient with the process but just trudged on.

1:15 am 10/21/22. Pass midnight and wide awake. Other than not having a taste in my mouth there’s little difference in over doing on Thiamine HCL than TTFD.

TTFD is supposedly many times more bioactive than Thiamine HCL. TTFD crosses the BBB, but Thiamine HCL requires transporters to get to the brain. What the body doesn’t use of Thiamine HCL is flushed out in urine, so it is much safer (neither are life treating). TTFD has been shown to be 100% absorbed by analysis of urine for by-product, but by-product requires further processing in liver and results in a garlic taste. Thiamine has a short half-life of 1−12hr (Info on net is a little confusing; one source says can be stored in small quantities in liver for up to 28days, but it is generally accepted that Thiamine HCL should be taken daily because excess is flushed out.) Thiamine is required by all living cells.

No conversion exists. Considering: I feel about the same on 1400mg hcl as I did on a 33.3mg tablet of TTFD, the conversion for me would be about 42mg hcl for every 1 mg TTFD. A more useful number would be 100mg hcl is about the same as 2.4mg TTFD. Since they both have about the same side effect hcl in high enough quantity must make it t the brain and since TTFD has the by-product, hcl might be the better choice.

Anyway, I would be afraid to try any before a dance (not knowing how I would react to taking both). I won’t be taking any in the morning and hopefully sleep Friday night.
