Apollo Device

My husband has pd , and a friend of mine has been using a wearable device called the apollo. sends electrical currents to calm the nervous system. used to treat anxiety. I have seen one article on how it helped someone with PD with anxiety and also with the urgency to urinate. Has anyone used it or have info on it ?

Tried it as well as their competitor - Touchpoint and sadly they do nothing for PD.

Not two PwP are alike!

Thanks and you are right about that, Despe. I should have probably clarified that these devices did not work for me and me alone and that they also come with a 30 day warranty which allowed me to return them as well.

Just be careful with the packing and the receipt. Anything missed in the return will cost you.

Fair enough of a disclaimer, Despe? You are indeed a good friend to the community. What would we do without you ?💁😋

My hubby has been using it for a year. He finds it quite soothing

How has it helped his symptoms? And does he wear it all day and night?

It helps with mild anxiety which overall makes him feel better. He only wears during the day. He stopped wearing it when he started feeling much better last year but had a bad down turn when his medications were altered and with covid so we are only just getting on top of things again so I must get him to start using it again

Actually reading the comments below I might get him to try for sleep too which he hasn’t before as he hasn’t been sleeping as well as he used to, although that is more about being uncomfortable I think.

Hello ~ as I read and then realized there were several options, which option of the Apollo have any of you tried? Thank you

Hi whitdemo. I've tried the sleep, anxiety (on mine, it's "social and open"), and other modes. The only one that seems to work for me is "social and open." I use it when I'm out and nervous about being around people. It could be a bit of a placebo effect, because I get distracted fiddling with the device also! I can't say for sure if it would work for your husband. I would also try calling the company. They'll want you to buy one of course, but maybe they have more info. And there are good and bad reviews on the site, which might help.

I'm sorry this isn't more definitive. :(

My husband also has been using the Apollo Neuro on his wrist for more than a year and, it has REALLY helped him! He uses the Sleep and Social and Open settings daily. He will not go w/o it. It is not billed for PD, tho really helps his, which is primarily autonomic nervous system related, rather than motor-related. Several friends later tried it, and it helped some and did not help others. The return policy is well worth it, if it doesn't help you.

this is helpful, so glad it helps your husband. what symptoms were helped most for him do u think? and how long didi it take to be helpful. My husband has tremors and he is a public speaker so wonder if it would help him be more calm .thanks again

It took effect immediately. He uses it every night to get to sleep, and it usually keeps him asleep. That's the symptom it helps with most, both he and I would say. My husband does not have tremors, so we can't speak to those. He uses the Social And Open setting when he goes into a social situation, when he gives a talk, goes out to dinner, etc. He says it simply relaxes him; reduces some stress. I'd say that setting is worth a try for your hubby. We bought one for our son, who has significant social anxiety, but it did not help him at all. We were able to return it within the window, which I think has been increased to (or used to be) 60 days. A PwP friend also tried it but said it did not help him. He wasn't very forthcoming about what he used it for, so he may not have even tried it. I did not press him. And was able to have son and friend try it before returning it for refund.

One thing to bear in mind is that for people like my husband anything new and different is a stress in itself. Anything I have bought him to try and help he has an instant dislike and fear of but sometimes if I can get him to try things he eventually becomes very attached to them and loves them. With the Apollo I virtually had to wrestle him to get him to put it on the first day with the promise that if after 2 days of trying it he didn’t like it I would send it back. Once he had tried it he wanted it every day. The same happened with the coronet red hat which he has used every day for a good 18 months now.

Other things weren’t suffered at all like the hospital bed which lasted 1 night and we have a reclining motorised lazy boy on hire to see if he can alternate sleeping in that with his bed which he gets very sore legs in but I fear that will be a return too! Week 2 and he has barely touched it, though the cat is very pleased with it!

So I guess the people who have had an Apollo bought for them and are reluctant to try new things might have the instant fear and hate of it without giving it a chance like my husband has for anything new.
