Does Ongentys work in the body or the gut?

Never mind - Says to take on empty stomach (no eating 1 hour before or after). So in my case would make no difference. So, maybe the question is does Ongentys work only because of (no eating 1 hour before or after).

I don't understand what point you are trying to make in your earlier post, so your question here doesn't make sense to me.

What I can say is that Ongentys works because it inhibits the COMT enzyme, allowing more levodopa to reach the brain.

I cut back from 13 a day to 4 by taking L-dopa on empty stomach. Unless your results are better with Ongentys, benefit would be null for me. That's unless you have benefit and are not following directions.

I think the Ongentys would allow more levodopa to reach the brain, and thus allowing for a reduction in your c/l dose.

But I guess your are fairly newly diagnosed, so I am not recommending you to start taking Ongentys (plain old c/l should be fine).

FYI, I eat non-protein meals immediately after I take a dose. The thought being the food will hasten the c/l tablets into the small intestine where they can be doing some good. Also, the sooner you get the meal out of the stomach, the quicker you can get the next dose and meal in.

l-dopa outside the brain only increases side effects. The goal is to get as much l-dopa to the brain as possible, where it can be converted the dopamine. You don't want l-dopa converted to dopamine anywhere except the brain. Anything you do to avoid the conversion elsewhere is a good thing. My feeling is "you don't want bacteria in the gut thriving on your meds".

I guess I don't have many bacteria in my gut eating my meds.
