Was Mannitol just a hype?

I don't know what to make of this. I still take a spoonful a day and still think that it restored my sense of smell.
What I gleaned is at least some of the mannitol crosses the BBB but they couldn't find a reason for it helping with alpha synucleon dispersal. I never tried it only because my card was rejected. Now I'm glad only a little bit of money wasted. That leaves more to spend on FIR and Red light photomodulation.
It’s an anti inflammatory Inflammation makes PD (and all diseases) worse. There is some evidence of it being beneficial to the gut biome.
I KNOW it improved my sense of smell bc products I had no idea had fragrance I could suddenly smell.
Trehalose is another one worthy of researching
I use it a few days a week.
What a small study. Only concluded that you can take 18g a day without problems, but didn’t seem to look at whether it worked or not. Inconclusive I reckon and at odds with my personal experience, although I’m currently not taking due to gas issues!!
Seems to me that as mannitol can be taken without adverse effect other than gas (so I take it at night...) it's one to try out in case you're one of the ones that benefit...
If you’d seen my husband one week after starting on mannitol, they’d believe it can work (for some obviously). It was amazing and continued to be for 18 months. He just had a minor blip and spent a few weeks in hospital. He is back on track now. The neurologist kept him on the mannitol while he was in hospital. See my post.
