The team found that a soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) inhibitor combined with kurarinone, a compound from the dried root of Sophora flavescens, reduced neuroinflammation in an animal model with Parkinson’s disease.

So I read the article all the way through.

Sounds easy - doesn't it?

Does anyone have an idea how we can benefit from this?

In took Ku Shen tea, it gave me significant symptomatic improvement, unfortunately it conflicted with my blood pressure meds so I had to stop it.

I am going to wait until the research paper is actually published to assess validity, and if so, dosage.

There is a substantial amount of evidence from experimental parkinsonian models to show the neuroprotective effects of monoamine oxidase-B (MAOB) inhibitors. They have been studied for their potential disease-modifying effects in Parkinson’s disease (PD) for over 20 years in various clinical trials. This review provides a summary of the clinical trials and discusses the implications of their results in the context of disease-modification in PD.

That's what I ended up ordering, I would rather add to a shake or tea. Will try it for a couple weeks to see if there is improvement.

it should be noted that if taking Azilect or another MAOB inhibitor, Ku Shen is likely not a good idea as it is an MAOB inhibitor as well. Or maybe switching to a lower dose of Azilect and incorporating KuShen might be beneficial to reap other benefits of KuShen

It potentially has other health benefits

Update: Not really sure if this helped much, used the active herb powder. Interestingly it is used in Prostrate cancer because it creates estrogen. My bottle is in chinese, never really knew the dose taken other than using the scoop.

Found a few contraindications:

Sophora can act on cytochorome P450 (CYP450) enzymes and increase CYP2a, Cyp2b, and CYP3a. R R

This effect on liver enzymes may be gender specific, for example, male rodents taking sophora have an increased 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylation (EROD), 7-pentoxyresorufin O-dealkylation (PROD), coumarin hydroxylation, and nifedipine oxidation (NFO) activities, while females do not have any changes in coumarin hydroxylation and NFO activities. R

Ku shen contains kurarinone which can be toxic to the liver (reduces l-carnintine and PPAR-α pathway, ultimately leading to lipid accumulation and liver injury). R

Oxymatrine (in ku shen) at high doses (320mg/kg) may also be toxic to the liver by causing endoplasmic reticulum stress. R R
