Medication for Osteopenia with Parkinson’s

Husbandsupporter profile image

My husband has PD and has been told (through his dexi scan ) that Osteopenia is present and he needs to stay on something. Fosamax is out of the question due to its affect on the bones. VitD, A, E are already in the mix, but wonder if anyone in this forum has/is on any prescribed medication for prevention of it developing into Osteoporosis?

Ask about Prolia, It is a twice a year injection that promotes bone formation as well as slowing/stopping bone loss.

that's the one I'm most interested in..along with the new one Evenity (which was in a post left in this forum)

thank you for your reply and the time you took to respond to me. Yes, I'm very aware of the vitamins you wrote and he is on them. I was too for many years, but as I have aged and he has PD, something else needs to be added. he's been on all natural BioTe pellets for going on 2 years but the expense of them is getting too much. (He has to have the insertion of the pellets every 4-5 months and the payment is all out of pocket.) Thank you and I will take a look at the articles you mentioned. Appreciate you

Pellets wouldn't be my first choice. Consider twice a week injections with an easy touch syringe. 29 g 1/2 in. syringe, pretty easy to do. He may also consider using HCG, to keep his testicles full. I don't know if it's okay to use a clinic's name. I would consider defy medical. Telemedicine, pretty inexpensive.

Thank you for your reply. It was hoped the pellets would also help with the PD symptoms. Didn't. The expense of the pellets and the fact that the cost is out of pocket makes continuing a quandary. Appreciate your taking the time

thank you for your reply. I hadn't heard of Evenity...but will continue to research it and ask the Dr next week when I have a consultation. My husband has been on BioTe pellets (which is all natural and matches his personal testosterone needs. He's not had no reaction or issues with them other than the cost---it's all out of pocket, and twice to three times a year it gets expensive. So I'm looking for alternatives for us: other than Fosamax or any of the biophosonates.

I have Osteopenia and have prescribed Alendronic acid once a week plus Calcichew one tablet twice daily. I also take vitamin K2 . I have recently been diagnosed with PD and my neurologist is aware of my current medication so I assume they do not clash.

Thank you for your reply. I am hopeful this medication combination works for you.

I'm glad you are also taking Vitamin K2. Have you thought about Vitamin A and D also? No matter what medication "we" are on, those are necessary additions. You are very kind to respond and may your journey with PD allow you many many years of joy and fullness of life. If I may be so bold, "Welcome to the family"....my husband is a PWP

The Calcichew contains Vitamin D

You’re correct. I went online and found indeed it does. But I didn’t read If it was D3, or not. But thank you for writing in, and I didn’t do my due diligence before I answered you
