my Husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 1 week ago. He has started on half a tablet Q daily for 1 week, 2 half tabs for 1 week then onto 3 and ongoing. As a nurse in UK I had experience of working with people who had this but I was never involved with the medication/dietary restrictions. We are facing it full on with changes in diet and exercise and have a joint appointment with our GP today. We have written down questions and know she will be very supportive. We’re open to any advice.

Do you have access to a Movement Disorder Specialist? They are Neurologists that are trained to treat PD. Highly recommended!
In Australia, the primary professional organization dedicated to movement disorders is the Movement Disorder Society of Australia and New Zealand (MDSANZ). This not-for-profit organization comprises medical professionals with a clinical or research interest in movement disorders. MDSANZ focuses on facilitating and promoting education and research across various aspects of movement disorders, from basic science to therapeutic interventions.
MDSANZ maintains close ties with the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS), a global professional society with over 12,000 members dedicated to improving patient care through education and research. MDSANZ also collaborates with the Asian and Oceanian Section (MDS-AOS) of the MDS, which supports the growth and development of movement disorder specialists in the region.
For nurses specializing in movement disorders, the Movement Disorders Chapter of the Australasian Neuroscience Nurses' Association offers clinical support and professional development opportunities. This chapter aims to reduce geographical isolation and promote a professional identity for movement disorder nurses.
These organizations and play a crucial role in advancing the understanding and treatment of movement disorders in Australia and New Zealand.
