Sesame Seed Based Protocol? Suggestions Please!

I'm looking for suggestions for protocol additions based on sesame seeds that people think would be really helpful to slowing or stopping the progression of PD.

Here is what has me on sesame seeds today:

Supplementation of Sesamin Alleviates Stress-Induced Behavioral and Psychological Disorders via Reshaping the Gut Microbiota Structure 2019 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/316... "Sesamin inhibited stress-induced gut barrier integrity damage, reduced circulating lipopolysaccharide (LPS) levels, and suppressed neuroinflammatory responses. Moreover, sesamin treatment also restructured the gut microbiome by enhancing the relative abundances of Bacteroidales and S24-7." Not a PD article, but a fixing the microbiome article. You can purchase Sesamin anywhere.

Dietary supplementation with peptides from sesame cake alleviates Parkinson’s associated pathologies in Caenorhabditis elegans 2020 sciencedirect.com/science/a... "Peptides from sesame cake (PSC) have been reported to exert a beneficial effect on aging. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is an age-related disorder, which manifests as Lewy body formation and dopaminergic dysfunction." The peptides from sesame cake (PSC) are a group of peptides obtained by buffer extraction, ammonium sulfate precipitation and chromatography of sesame cake.

Sesame oil mitigates memory impairment, oxidative stress, and neurodegeneration in a rat model of Alzheimer's disease. A pivotal role of NF-κB/p38MAPK/BDNF/PPAR-γ pathways 2021 sciencedirect.com/science/a... "In conclusion, the neuroprotective effect of SO involved the modulation of different mechanisms targeting oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and cognitive functions." "An improved purification procedure leading to black sesame (Sesamum Indicum L.) pigment was developed involving fat removal by treatment of ground black sesame seeds with dichloromethane followed by an optimized hydrolytic protocol with 6 M HCl, at 100° C, overnight. The black pigment thus obtained displayed good antioxidant efficiency by the 2, 2-

diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical assay (82% reduction at 0.5 mg/mL), good ferric ion-reducing capacity (61 μM Trolox equivalent concentration at 0.5 mg/mL), and potent …"

Sesame seed extract shows promise for Parkinson’s 2021 medicalnewstoday.com/articl... "Sesame seed husks, a waste product from the manufacture of sesame seed oil, are rich in the antioxidant sesaminol"

Sesaminol prevents Parkinson's disease by activating the Nrf2-ARE signaling pathway 2020 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl... "The results of the in vivo experimental system of the present study suggest that sesaminol prevents the development of PD pathology from the intestine and reduces α-synuclein expression in the substantia nigra, which suppresses motor dysfunction and the decline of intestinal motor function." As park_bear covered in the John_morris71 thread healthunlocked.com/cure-par... Sesaminol is NOT EASY TO MAKE :(

And here is a little article on sesame seeds in general ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

The best I have come up with is buying this 4 pound bucket or raw unhulled black sesame seeds and blending half a cup into my smoothie every day (is that even safe?) amazon.com/Kevala-Organic-B... Or maybe I just add sesame seed oil to my smoothie?

Suggestions? Or are sesame seed solutions just not ready for prime time?

Prior to Parkinson's there was a time when I attempted to find a good quality sesame oil and ended up giving up in frustration. I do not know about efficacy, but if there is a choice to be made between sesame oil and sesame seeds I would opt for the seeds.

The compound required may not be in the oil anyway depending if it is oil soluble

What about tahini? It is sesame seed paste . You can get it hulled or not hulled. Lots of recipes use tahini, like halva

I think if you have a whole food option it is the way to go rather than taking concentrated supplements.

Black sesame seeds are best from what I’ve read. And grinding them yourself is also best as freshly ground has more antioxidants just like with coffee and flax seeds. Eating them whole does nothing bc they just pass through (from what I’ve read. )

I’ve gotten as far as buying a grinder and the seeds.

Trader Joe’s has organic tahini

Make sure to not use tahini with any added seed oils

Okay! So what grinder did you get?

in reply to Bolt_Upright

So are you going to grind them into meal (like ground flaxseeds), or paste (tahini)? I'm wondering what volume you are thinking to consume.

I'm trying to figure this out. I looked up how to make Tahini and it included adding olive oil. But the Tahini I was looking at did not have olive oil.

Maybe I should just get the seeds with hulls and use a coffee grinder? That would make a powder.

Yes, that is how I grind flaxseeds into meal.

If they are like almonds, they become meal at first but if you continue to process them it becomes almond butter. I would expect sesame seeds might be the same because of their oil content. You could try it in your NutriBullet.
