We are now near the end of the third , [and final], mercury amalgam war between the general public and the mercury amalgam industry.
In medieval times there are reports of mercury amalgam dental fillings being used in China with horrendous results. The amalgam was first used in england and france in 1809. The practice spread to the USA.
In 1843 the American society of dental surgeons banned the fillings on the grounds that the mercury leaked out and would poison the patients. In 1848 the mercury amalgam industry set up and funded the present day American dental association, [ADA]. The ADA " influenced " members of Congress to ban other fillings , making the false claim that mercury amalgam was stable and that the mercury was sealed into the filling. This was the start of the first amalgam war.
The ADA is still funded by the mercury amalgam industry and held the patent for the amalgam. As a minion of the industry it has a vested interest in what it is saying.
Once the practice of using amalgam became established , most people never knew that the fillings contained mercury or that it leaked out.
A tiny minority knew the truth but were branded as scaremongers.
Many private researchers proved that the mercury leaked out but were ignored by health authorities. Professor Stock of Germany published proof in 1930 and declared the use of mercury amalgam as the greatest sin against man.
There were also other private researchers who proved the dangers of the amalgam.
It was not until 1984 that technology caught up with the lie that the mercury was sealed into the filling. Dentists then had machines capable of measuring the amount of mercury which was leaking out.
In 1984--5 the top dental surgeon researcher, W . Eggleston , of the USA proved that the amalgam depressed the immune system and was involved with a large number of medical diseases. He had his own amalgams removed and called for a ban of the amalgam.
Over the next few years scientists proved that the unborn child was vulnerable to the mercury and health authorities banned the use of amalgam for pregnant women.
Scientists also became increasingly aware of the dangers of the mercury from fillings causing environmental problems.
It was proved that the mercury from fillings was accumulating in the brain and other organs of the body. In some parts of the brain it has a biological half life of over 27 years.
Many countries have already completely banned the amalgam.
Nearly all countries are phasing out its use.
In Sweden, generally considered to have the best healthcare system, it was phased out starting 1999 and finishing 2009. By then Sweden had banned mercury in all fillings, in all medicines, in all vaccines and all medical equipment including thermometers. If a thermometer in a hospital broke in that 10 year period the whole hospital had to be evacuated.
The last nail in the coffin for the mercury amalgam industry is that last year the FDA finally admitted that the amalgam was not safe. For over 30 years the chief of the FDA was Margeret Hamberg. It was eventually found that Hamberg was sitting on the board of directors of the main mercury amalgam company and receiving $250,000 a year for 3 hours work.
