Chelators in the Treatment of Iron Accumulation in Parkinson's Disease
Like I commented on one of the Vitamin C post, Vit C increases Iron absorption and, Iron and Dopamine are toxic to neurons
2 + 2 = 4
I didn’t know that about vitamin C. Could you link back to that post? I take vitamin C as recommended by my functional Med, doc. In fairly large quantities (3gms per day). I’m also low on ferritin and she wants me to raise my level but for the reason you state here I’m hesitant.
The results of this study suggest that while the application of Asc alone may aggravate the progression of PD in view of the possible peroxidation of Asc bound Fe(II), a combination therapy of Asc and strong clinically used iron chelator would appear to be a promising direction for the treatment of PD as a result of the enhanced iron chelation and attenuation in oxidative stress and toxicity induced by DA derived quinones.
